Personally I love this, it keeps the newer characters lower level than the older characters, shame that RP ability does not factor in.

I would really love a way to disable XP for killing, So I wouldnt feel like such a powergamer for simply giving a roleplay reason why my wizard is getting better with a sword.

But this kind of lets me, if I kill too much, i end up getting no xp and its all fun from there, I hate levelling too fast.

And for those of you who dont like that you're too far ahead of the curve, the curve seems to be a subtle way of telling you that you kill too much.

Here's a WoWism I'd like to share with the complainers:

        "OMG QQ SOME MORE NUB"
        Perigo Teal, Rogue Assassin.
Genji, The happy go lucky Gnome.
Giladel of the house of Ravencrest.

IT GOES 40 MINUTES, but not seconds. Draw off by the pillar of fail!

Even amongst his/her mumbo jumbo formatting, I got a glimpse of what TomatoPasteMoose was saying. Now don't get me wrong. I don't completely agree with what was said, but I at least understand where he/she is coming from.

Basically, his/her concern is boredom. If someone spends a lot of time in the game world, this could be a potential problem. You've roleplayed all day, and suddenly there is a grand total of 5 players on the server, all of which are either busy, not the type of characters your own would usually socialise with, or not wanting to roleplay with you for one reason or another.

          So what do you do?

Well, your number one idea would generally be to go and kill something - and a legitimate in-character reason could easily be given for this. A Paladin wishing to make the town of Sestra safer, for example, or a mercenary hired out to slaughter some goblins. However, you're well and truly above the curve, gaining zero or minimal XP per kill, rendering this activity useless unless for an RP purpose in your own company. Roleplaying his own major goals could not really be furthered at this point since you have no-one else to roleplay with.

Option two would be to create another character. In juggling more than one character, you could minimise your current XP curve as time goes by. A valid option, but really not one that should be necessary in order to have fun.

Option three is to roleplay by yourself - and I'm quite sure I'm not the only one who views this is pretty pointless and not very fun.

Option four is to..... Do something else. Go play another game. Read a book. Write a story. Or, if you're really in need of having something to do with your character(s), you could work on character history, backgrounds, plots, scenarios, whatever.

The fact of the matter is, though... This is your gaming time and you just want to play!. At this point, a lot of people will be frustrated because there's absolutely nothing that Sundren can offer them to spend their time with, because there's no-one on the server and they're ahead of the XP curve.

Why am I bothering to say all this?

Well, I know I'm not the only Aussie who plays here.. (though I might be the only West Aussie, but I'm not sure) In any case, I know what it's like to be bored and lonely on a server with no-one around. I've seen the times when Sundren is pretty much unoccupied. This particular time is my prime time, and I find myself logging off and doing other things because there's no-one around to RP with and I'm ahead of the curve. Now, I'm lucky in that I don't spend so much time in the game world that I'm always going to be ahead of the curve. But what about those people who do have all this time to play? In making it more fair for the rest of us, it's making things less fair for these people just because they have more time on their hands than us.

I need to say right now that I don't dislike, disagree with, or have any problems with the current XP gain system. I think it's quite brilliant, a lot of thought went into it, and it's an attempt at making things more fair for all players whilst stopping grinders and urging players to roleplay more. I get that, totally. I also know you can't satisfy everyone when trying to help the majority, and I don't have a solution to this problem.

For those whose prime playing time is during a time when the server is populated, you can RP to your heart's content and not even have to lift your sword to have fun. But for a lot of people like me who often RP for an hour or so and then watch as everyone slowly leaves the server, or for people like TomatoPasteMoose who seem to play over several time zones' prime times, there leaves little for us to do with the current XP system the way it is. To top this off, people on the 'off' time zones often aren't there for DM run events, so getting XP that way is probably not going to happen very often.

Like I said, I have no solution to this. Just wanted to voice my opinion because everyone seems so quick to judge and label TomatoPasteMoose as a powergamer or a grinder. Really all he/she is saying is that without being able to go and fight stuff for a reason, things get boring very fast without people to RP with.

The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.
