I'll admit that perhaps my playing style (with this character) is lacking in caution.

Thanks or the prompt reply! I am definitely striving to be as constructive as possible regarding my forum posts, and I appreciate the suggestion, Grinning Death. I will keep my eye out for those oh so rare clerics to party with. To be realistic, when I am at 14 vitality, 'just checking their PC every few minutes while they stand around and regain vitality.' is exactly what I am faced with.
Roguethree, the lack of caution that I refer to is primarily rooted in the necessity for a mele character to stand closer to danger and potential sources of death, rather than a berserk or 'no retreat' mentality. This is not a complaint or an excuse but rather just a statement of relative risk concerning various characters I have played.

Clerics and Favored Souls comprise over 50% of Sundren's character vault, last I saw the statistics. Mostly because arcane casters can't effectively 'sustain' (with the exception of Warlocks lolololololololololololol ), and mundane classes aren't currently given the proper magical item tools to stay relevant without having an arcane or divine spellcaster strapped to their genitals.Active
Reinamar Stormseeker - The bladestorm that must turn back the wind. Arkerym of The People, practitioner of the forgotten art, pariah.
Tyler Penleigh - Obligatory author insert, Red Blade Defender, sarcastic jerk, caring brother, loving fiancé, war criminal.
Retired/Dead
Eirimil Gaelazair (Dead)- Bitter. Caustic. Abrasive. Egocentric. Probably right. Found dead in the burned-out Viridale forest a few weeks after the survivors were able to sweep the area after the Bloodmaim offensive. Aside from his usual attire, an intricate music box was the only thing in his possession.

Make a female friend and take her on a shopping spree around Sundren. That will eat up the 2.5 hours you need to regain your vitality and build up enough pent up rage to see you through your next adventuring session.Originally posted by cpas View PostTo be realistic, when I am at 14 vitality, 'just checking their PC every few minutes while they stand around and regain vitality.' is exactly what I am faced with.
I am very much liking the new death system. I admit the sitting around and waiting for the vitality to recover can be a bit tedious at times but it is not nearly as frustrating as losing a few hours of game play or DM xp to a random death like a mysterious hawk attack on the way to the Crossroads. Not that any of my PC's would adimit to being violently savaged repeatedly by a hawk or anything.Ashard Velmont - Gentleman scoundrel
Ryland Padant - A dedicated soul

*Please note* Sundren is not an adventure/hack slash server. Sundren is an RP server. If you cannot find 2.5 hours worth of stuff to RP about. Then this may not be the place for you.
This aspect of the new death system prevents a character from dying and then 5 minutes later.. oh he is fighting again? Already? he Was just dead-ish?
It places a little more weight on the event surround a character being dropped to -10. It is still absurdly unrealistic... but that is DND at it's core.
We all play this game for fun. I encourage you to do as Standur suggests. Though I personally want nothing to do with a Sundren date. And I would not expect XP rewards from me if I were you, not for cyber dating. Try checking in with your faction representative. Get involved in a Plot. Character driven or DM driven. Heck start your own plot.
What does your character want to do? If it is just kill goblins and grind levels... well then I can't help you.

Be aware that going afk to regen vitality is not advised as PvP could get you perma killed if you are discovered by an assassin. There are some nefarious PCs among the Sundren population who would love to send an unsuspecting soul to his or her permanent rest.'just checking their PC every few minutes while they stand around and regain vitality.'Account Name: LuvHandles
Maneae StrongArm - Devilish Warrior Woman (Active: Finding her place after time in reflection)
Minael Cel'Anon - Elven Smith, Knight and Wizard (Inactive: seeking clues to lost elven artifacts)

Ra'd Malik - Mulhorandi Warrior (Inactive: Off on a mission for the BH)

Chazre Kenner - All around good guy with a penchant for revelry and chasing the ladies. (Deleted: Team Good, returned to Cormyr)

_Now_ I remember how this works. A constructive suggestion/observation is made and it is met with not only the traditional reply of 'Suck it this is an RP server!' but also a thinly veiled in game death threat. Both quite poor as far as responses go. It seems that Sundren is a RP game built upon a framework of rules and mechanics, the D&D+custom part. Whenever someone wants to address the latter (the rules/mechanics) it seems to illicit a knee jerk response assuming that anyone who doesn't fit into what appears to be a rather narrow perspective on acceptable behavior is an RP heretic. Perhaps I am wrong in feeling that, with certain characters, developing their persona within the context of the mechanics of the game constitutes valid roleplaying. If this is so then it was a mistake to return here.

I personally love the new death system. I vary between suicidal, charging, selfless, heroic, stupid combat without a demigod to back me up, so I die a lot, and chasing around people for RP a lot. And I now feel like in combat, when we do have the obligatory cleric or wizard who, typically, refuses to aid anyone but themselves, I don't have to just sit back and watch them solo, I can charge in like the heroic headstrong barbarianess I am and tear the snot out of things, occasionally dying and shrugging it off because it no longer costs me half a level.
Edit: Oooh, just noticed the above post. It comes off as whinier and ragier than even I do when a favoured soul/stormlord enthusiast walks into the room. Seriously, man, cool it, this server is never going to be balanced for many of the reasons that DnD isn't. As for the fatigue system, you have a look back to when dying cost you, as mentioned, half a level that it took me at least about half a month to accumulate. Now you just have to take a back seat and RP for a while. It's not hard. The stuff regenerates quite quick.Running across the mountains, attacking with an oversized scalpel, cometh Helga Great-Wyrm! And she gives a mighty bellow:
"Brace yourself, oh human speck of dust! You are made of meat and I am very hungry!"

Hey, bro. Snowmane gave you good advice. I've been fugued a couple times because some metagamling jerk noticed I was afk and sworded me. As for the mechanics, the death system is very friendly. Like, really, really friendly. Like, stupid friendly. Sucks that you're dying so frequently. Change what you're doing. For most fighters, combat expertise and a shield is sufficient to handle goblins all day. You can rest to full health after every fight. The problem isn't the death system._Now_ I remember how this works. You took the worst out of two good posts, completely disregarding the rest. Sound advise was given, even if the internet can seem like a strange, evil place when you can't hear the tone of the other persons voice through their text.Originally posted by cpas View Post_Now_ I remember how this works. I love the new death system. I used to be unable to use a lot of my spells as my spirit shaman in PvP, because they would not count as a player kill, and so would cost the enemy xp for raising. The same spells that would kill them and not count as me would not work in subdual, and would still kill them, so this new death system is an awesome relief for me. Now we can all pvp, never holding back because we don't want to cause our opponent to lose thirteen thousand xp. As for having to stand around for two and a half hours, I remember when I had to stand around for three or four days until someone found my body and resurrected me, so this cut the time down to 5% of the wait I used to have, so I think it's spot on. There are casters out there who would love a melee tank in front of them, you just have to find them, and you will stop dying, trust me. Well, at least dying to often.Tigen Amastacia: Died in events so you didn't have to.
Quintin Ulsteris: Nice-guy Legion engineer, deceased son of House Ulsteris.
Clandriel Cain: AKA "Fire-eyes" AKA "Demon hunter" AKA "OH MY GOD, WHY IS HE STILL STABBING ME!!??"

I really don't understand your hostility? I did not once say, Suck anything. I simply reminded everyone that on an RP server we encourage role play. The fact that we choose not to facilitate grind-die-grind behavior is based on the principle that this is in fact an RP server.
I gave you a reason why your suggestion was not likely to be implemented. In addition, I gave you some thoughts on how I would deal with the grievance that lead to your suggestion. All of which were reasonable and constructive.
Would you rather a simple "NO. Deal with it." response? I always hated those as a player.
Really we don't mind suggestions. We as a team, consider all of them and implement a fair share, I should think. If you are kind enough to make a suggestion please realize that it could be ignored, denied, or at the worst shot down.
