Excellent!
Active Characters:
Roman Miellthorpe -- Crypt Carver
Church -- Bastion priest of the 'tough order'
Dutch -- Blacksmith
Canus -- Of the Glade Tribe
Gorri Blackbeard -- Dwarf Stout of the Legion
I have a question: Will characters who are currently dead take the vitality penalty upon implimentation, or will they be raised afterwards without the XP penalty?
Just wondering how the transition is going to work.
Anyone who has died will get a free return without losing vitality. Vitality loss is ON DEATH. While you are in the fugue, you are stuck at your vitality you would have after death. Since you are in the death area, you already have the vitality it thinks you should.
Love it GBX. Huge improvement to the death system. It makes perfect sense for PCs and simultaneously takes all the existing responsibility off DMs for dealing with dead players. Nice.

I imagine that was one of the chief considerations. Less DM responsibility & More happy players (albeit with a chance of dying forEVA!)

If I had my way, clerics would have spell failure and a d6 hit die. And Favored Souls wouldn't exist.

I tip my 40 to you GBX, a.k.a. - "Tha Homie". Thanks for your contributions, bro.

The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.
So, this might be considered a bug report. My level 5 ranger died last night. When I arrived in the death area I checked my vitality and it was still 100. I thought the vitality loss was supposed to start at level 5 and that the loss occurred on death? I expeected my vitality to be 70. Maybe the vitality loss starts at level 6 and not level 5? Oh, and the vitality stat is only displayed when you right click on yourself and get you stats through that menu, but it does not display when you click PC Stats in the DMFI window.

I'll admit that perhaps my playing style (with this character) is lacking in caution. I have reached >31 vitality with my mele character over several days of play. While I do like the system and appreciate its ramifications, the prospect of sitting somewhere for up to 2.5 hours to get to the point where I am at minimal vitality to avoid perma-death is less than appealing. Perhaps having certain zones, such as the appropriate temple, where a character can regain vitality at an accelerated rate might be appropriate. Thanks.
In that case, I'd advise you to make friends with a cleric or mage. Melee characters are powerful when teamed up with the right group.
Having accelerated vitality increase would defeat the purpose of the system though, and I can see folks just checking their PC every few minutes while they stand around and regain vitality.
