Yeah, but you said "It'd be cool if DMs got involved" which is asking for help but pretending not to

Player made factions just don't fit in much in my experience. Players who try to organize factions of their own need to have ALOT of time or play near constantly in order to faciliate and keep track of the guild/factions objectives, events, and members. It has been already posted that Player made factions will not be supported by the staff, since they are trying to make the existing server factions more appealing to the player base.

Also players tend to lose interest or build and play alt characters to kill time when the guild is not being led in a focused direction. But, if you got the skills, time, and patience to perserver, cool.

Lets keep it back on track or this thread is probably gonna get shut down.
        Currently playing:

Thalissa spellsword of Red Knight: "Flank, Flank!!"

Talia Callahan: "What te fuck are ye lookin at!!?" Spits

Caldur the Grey Doomguide to Kelemvor: "The trouble with youth is that you think you have time."

I'm sick of how a post I make trying to convince people that they don't have to grind if they really don't want to (I didn't want to, I had to because back when I was grinding I didn't have the luxury of an RP experience tick so I could spend all my time RPing instead) is turning into everyone attacking me. But I'm not going to bother defending myself here since that'd take this even more off-topic.

Meh, really, I find whats more fun then Grinding a dungeon or RPing around in a campsite is acutally RPing in a DUNGEON. Thats like, what one of the most fun things you can do. RP, while killing monsters. I've had a few great experiences w/o DMs in sundren with players that acutally took their time to Roleplay, rather then try to quickly beat the crap out of the dungeon so they can repeat it again. Moments that acutally had awesome RP while "Grinding." were my best moments. And IMO, with the RP exp per 10 minutes, i'm pretty sure thats way more fun then having to solo monsters for xp. Obviously, a person who doesnt grind at all isnt going to be the highest level. But you'll sure as hell be the person who had tons of fun. Back when Josephine started, there was no XP tick, so most people had to be a bit grindish to catch up, seeing as everyone else was doing it, and most of us get annoyed when someone who started way after you becomes higher then you, and feel the urge to catch up or overcome them.

Well >_> <_< As this thread is on its way for one of GBX's marvellous pictures let me state this: You have no idea what I am trying to organise, so please do not comment on it. As it is I am just aiming to give those 'naturey' PCs out there a unified voice other than a random, individual cry....

On topic now: DMing is fine on Sundren-- now that there are more than three or four (Saulus? GBX Aux.... Enchleon?) DMing. So please, please, please people. Do not complain. And I am sure more DMs will come soon enough, the player base will continue to grow. I can only hope we get some more interesting and cooperative players on here... not just the interesting, obnoxious me-me kind <_< >_> And I speak I know this because I was one!

No one makes me happier than someone who is willing to not clamour for DM love and share the 'spot-light'.

My next question is, where's the primer on how to join a faction? I've read the wiki, I get what they are, but it's one thing to suggest "branching out and getting involved in the server", and another to actually try to do it as a newbie.
Even if the quest system for the factions isn't yet in per se, you can still fairly easily find players of all factions (some are -much- tougher to find and approach, but some then people don't declare themselves publicly). Josephine and Hlaine are known Red Wizards (you'd guess simply by looking at them), there's a truckload of paladins and good clerics around who belong to the Helm church or the Triumvirates', and if you play an evil character, say a banite, you can bet you'll be introduced to the church if you make your moves wisely and prove to players and DMs you aren't Chaotic Stupid.

I've had really nice "spontaneous moments" with DMs, and it's the quality I appreciate the most in a DM. We were inside a certain wooden building and RPing along the way, when at some point I rolled a Listen check simply to hear what a companion was saying from another room, when I was whispered something along the lines of "You hear the footsteps of someone trying to sneak by in the corridor...". This led to a kickass "interrogation" sequence where only Thakla's presence kept it from becoming torture time (<3 your character!)... truely one of my top 5 RP moments on Sundren.

I know a lot of people who wonder why they get bored while playing a 'cool sinister brooding character', because they tend to want their own personal storylines for their dark and corner-sitting character. Being a brooder means you have to accept that you are a watcher, and you have to find enjoyment by watching other people, even when you have no involvement. If you don't like it, then don't play that kind of character. I personally am often a brooder but I find it quite fun to simply sit back and watch other people RP, I love to observe without having any personal involvement. Just because your character has absolutely no involvement in a DM event doesn't mean you can't still enjoy a DM event.

Another way to make brooding characters work is to make sure to bring out their strengths when they do become involved. That's what I do. I get lots of personalized DM events even though my character often sits on her own or is quiet, because the few times she does get drawn in she reacts in a way that really shows her character and provides the DMs with things to work with.

When RPing, you've got to be either one of two things: an proactionary character, or a strong reactionary character. The former guarantees you get attention, the latter doesn't get immediate attention but guarantees that when you do get attention you exploit it as much as possible to show your quality which then gives the DMs something to work with in the future.

I don't know how people make brooders, I just don't understand it. My last NWN1 server was super cliquish and if you weren't some brooder standin by a tree or outside a tavern you just weren't cool enough.

Highly annoying because they seem to get most of the DM attention whereas the normal players just running about didn't get much at all. No, I'm not just making this up which is the main reason I get annoyed if I see to much of it going on.

Brooders also tend to be the people that are on all the time, which makes them getting more DM attention even more absurd. Because the normal players who are only on for so long miss out because the DM is messing with the brooder. Of course it could just be that server, but brooders = emo and boring to me. Not to mention unless they're played be a decent RPler they often don't contribute much to others RP and just sit in their own little world waiting for the DM to give them their own custom adventure 24/7.

This went on so much on that other server... gods it was bad... anyway that opinion is just me.

I think the DM coverage is fine, not going to say anything critical about it that hasn't already been pointed out. Luckily on Sundren this brooder clique thing doesn't seem to be happening . . . yet.

Brooders are really hard to play I think, even if you are brooder in the real world. Too quite, too observant. You can do everything a brooder does, and still....not be a brooder -_-

I disagree, I think brooders are easy to play because the only people that have time to actually RP them brooding are the ones that play all the time.

Otherwise it would be ... "Hey didn't that guy just appear there and stand there for 1 hour and vanish?..."

They'd do that once a day, they'd never get any attention. Brooding entails, sitting there brooding.

                          Stand around watching...
Insert snide remark one.. ((If possible))
                          Stand around watching . ..
Gets to crowded so they walk away somewhere to look cool ((preferably in the background still viewable))
                          Stand around watching . . .

                          Not hard.
I've seen 1,000,000 and 1 brooders in my time RPling. */killmyself*

If the character is one-sided in that respect deepshades, I'm inclined to agree.

~ I've noticed in the past week or so, there have been more than 2 DMs on at any time I've been on (typically evenings in EST) So, the coverage already has seemed to pick up.

I would say the DM events have picked up and I was part of one last night involving a wolf that carried a disease and a very silly Troll.

there are at least two DMs when I primarily play.

                                Thanks!
