Let me try again.
To put simply, RP appropriately and don't be a selfish jerk OOC unless you are intentionally playing a selfish jerk, and even then, do it with the fun of others in the back of your mind (i.e. don't act OOC nice if your PC isn't nice, but don't do things that push the envelop of good sense such as 'I'm evil, it's IC for me to kill all the shopkeeps in town because their prices are outrageous-I realize the shopkeeps atm are in no PvP areas- or, "My PC is a jerk, so it is essential that I RP him showing up and ruining the hard work that a group of PCs have been doing for the past hour of solving a mystery by just showing up and pickpocketing all the quest critical items I can get my hands on; he's just like that').PC - Corwin Eska'las (Sun Elf pursuing the dream of becoming a Bladesinger)
Alt PC - Brevin Smoothands (meticulously groomed half orc bard swashbuckler... sort of... sings great, less fighting)

Yes, the banite quest was annoying with the loads of people joining, but Alanadriel and Krolk were invited, after talking. You guys just rushed, and didnt pay attention to us speaking to them. The other people, I have no clue... a person just rushed in and screamed "BANITE!" slaying the dm controlled neutral unit. I have to say that was really, really, annoying.... And, with the paladin, I traveled with him because he was involved in the curse quest, and so was my char.. Its not like I had a choice to go away, or anything. My char isnt going to abbandon everyone in a time of trouble, just because she doesnt really like pallys.

Very interesting, now here's a question,
Who here roleplays when there's nobody else around? Personally I find it enjoyable and a chance to improve on my style of roleplay."Men fear thought as they fear nothing else on earth -- more than ruin -- more even than death.... Thought is subversive and revolutionary, destructive and terrible, thought is merciless to privilege, established institutions, and comfortable habit. Thought looks into the pit of hell and is not afraid. Thought is great and swift and free, the light of the world, and the chief glory of man."

Dragoncleric I noticed did. I haven't seen him in a long while though. The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

I rolplay with myself all the time
But seriously I try to keep in character even alone, helps me enjoy the world more. I also tend to Ignor those OC things that i see and not interupt my fantasy.

My character talks to an angel who is in direct contact with Kelemvor, so when no one else is around, I RP with myself in Celestial between her and my PC for understanding (things I make up as a go along) of her purpose, etc. I love it.Originally posted by Kaldaris View PostVery interesting, now here's a question,

Something you need to understand though, in reality, that may very well happen. You and the baneite should have found a side room or somewhere out of the normal path of traffic... If you didn't want the Baneite to die, perhaps you should have defended him... *evil grin*

You might see Abigale my character do alot of observing..
She is basically goodnatured to a point but amuses in watching others rag on each other or do stuff "Quirky".
I myself enjoy the quirkiness of other characters and usualy refrain from saying too much in RP so I can read what others are saying. Abi will actually try to get people in situations.. she likes test people in her own way.
When Abi hangs around with Daniel.. she always tries to get Daniel in situations where he has to help someone or make some decisions that can be a little tough. If someone needs help and Abi is around Dan, she will usually see how Sir Daniel will react to it.. then its.. " Ask Sir Daniel.. he would love to help you in your situation"
.
As a DM I have alot of patience.. I don't get too mad when people ruin my events when slashing my NPC's and stuff..
Its happened from time to time. and i just let it slide.. if they don't cooperate... *presses kill button*
I would like to add though.. I know sometimes people are itching for that DM presence and events..but.. if you see DMs doing a quest with others and your not really involved in any way... just be curteous and stay away. If your invited..then thats great.. you can say hi even.. but please don't initiate yourself to join in.
I don't wanna be rude and kick people away..but.. if i get too many people then i have to be.. its not because i dislike you its just because there are too many players on my field. *chucks the yellow flag and blows the whistle*
I will let people know if it is a big event and anyone can be involved
.
I prefer smaller groups to give players a chance to do something in my quests.Current: Dae'Vesta, freaky female half-drow assassin

This was my quest.. and it was a situation in which.. there was like 6 people surrounding 2 baneites.. and one person just rushed through it and attacked it.. not even RP'n it.. just rushed through..
there wasn't a chance for any "defending"..
Just wanted to clear that up..

How about making NPCs unkillable or immortal for the purposes of keeping them alive during the event?

There's so many layers of metagaming in there I don't even want to get started dissecting it. When I control NPCs now, I tend to rename them from something obvious because people love to metagame the name over NPCs headsOriginally posted by undeadsteak View PostYes, the banite quest was annoying with the loads of people joining, but Alanadriel and Krolk were invited, after talking. There's also the problem of visual recognition... They are in the caves... The banites in there have a blue light about their fists and dress the same way... Someone runs in and sees a person dressed in the same garb of the Baneites with blue lights playing about his fists... They are going to recognise them for what they are in this situation... In this example, there is no metagaming involved, especially if the person in question is familiar with the caves...

Problem there is, how do you know there are blue lights around the guys hands? Or even what the blue lights are? Things like this are often OOC visuals that stupid obsidian adds for eyecandy and not always actually present IC. I do not assume things like this are actually there IC; for example, the bardsong effect causes colored lights to eminate around people; that's an OCC visual affect introduced by NWN2 to let people know who's being affected by the song in a visual way; I doubt that bard songs IC cause people to eminate light.
It's also very possible and often the case that a DM chose a certain NPC model to represent a specific NPC that they did not have prepared beforehand; it's always a good idea to check first with the DM before assuming things like this.
Even if it obviously was a banite, think about it. There a group of people who are apparently surrounding the banite and talking to him; how likely is it that even a less than intelligent PC would just charge through and slaughter the banite in such a situation without any questions or stopping to make even a feeble attempt to access the situation?PC - Corwin Eska'las (Sun Elf pursuing the dream of becoming a Bladesinger)

I don't understand why any of these actions are being portrayed negatively. People rushed? People attacked a banite? Sounds like rp.
