True, however, for us to make every Bane worshipper appear different is a whooooooole lot of work. Not mention, I have yet to see one of the people who run in screaming "BANITE" actually hear one of the dead clerics mention they worship bane? Some people are aware through DM events, but everyone? And even if some of the clerics state that, does that mean every human in there worships bane? And if so, what is to say anyone who walks down there wearing similar clothing shouldn't be considered a Banite? Not to mention, there's no indication that what they wear is a "Garb of Bane". I thought it was just armor personally.

The answer is simple. Banite over head = Bane Worshipper

Note that Banites are not universally like the ones in the caves, who are of a more fanatical bend. Bane is a lawful evil deity, the personification of peace and order through tyranny and fear. His ideals are held true in some areas of the Realms, and there are people who honestly believe that Bane is a necessary evil.

Just because the god is called the "Lord of Darkness" by some and has a terrible reputation amongst those who read novels doesn't mean his followers should be death-on-sight.

          Meanwhile everyone still hates Cyricists.
"Men fear thought as they fear nothing else on earth -- more than ruin -- more even than death.... Thought is subversive and revolutionary, destructive and terrible, thought is merciless to privilege, established institutions, and comfortable habit. Thought looks into the pit of hell and is not afraid. Thought is great and swift and free, the light of the world, and the chief glory of man."

Ok, here's the admittal: the orc in question was Fubar, me, Grigori. Fubar has an intelligence of 6 and a wisdom of 8. Fubar sees guys with blue lights around their hands attacking him all the time in those caves. Fubar has been killed by those same individuals. Fubar is in battle rage and only has a feral recognition when it comes to things like this. Did I rush in immediately? No. I stood on the outside of the group and watched for a moment, and then saw a goblin appear and begin attacking the party. Caught up in the bloodspray of battle, and assuming the man with the blue fists was the reason for this, Fubar immediately went for the root of the problem and attacked the mean man with blue light on his fists (and, incidently, felled him with one chop of his falchion). Did anyone step between the orc and the baneite initially to make sure the orc did not attack? No. Did anyone not attack the goblin thus keeping their attention on the events at hand to attempt some control? No, they immediately swarmed the goblin leaving the baneite completely on his own.

Fubar never screamed BANEITE, although he did say something after killing the man about "'tupid god-prayer get ded for kill Fubar befor...". I have to roleplay Fubar very carefully because of his int and wis and have to make decisions based on how I feel he would react to things. He is dumb, he has just enough common sense to make halfway decent decisions, yet he is a near-feral Barbarian that was forced to grow up on his own in the Forests after becomong adolescent and taking on the grotesque features of the orc blood that boiled inside him. So, based on those things, I made a decision, and Fubar acted on that decision. Did the people involved even take the time to try and explain to Fubar why that was bad? No, they simply began to insult him and threaten him and slowly walk away.

Now that I have said all of this, I did apologize to the DM and was told that it was OK... Jhiroth stated quite simply "I don't understand why any of these actions are being portrayed negatively. People rushed? Blame low wis scores People attacked a banite? Sounds like rp." and again, I point to wisdom and intelligence scores and character concept. If a DM wants an event character to not die or to be different, then there are options to go where this is concerned. The super large Mossclaw Chief took absolutely no damage the other night and this could have been done with the Baneite as well. So, with all this being put to the table...

*tilts hat garishly, takes the jab of "True but..." full on in the jaw and responds with a forearm smash of "Character Concept, Scores, and DM Control"*

Will this war be waged a second round? Let's see what happens when Godbeast bounces back off the ropes...

              Maleficus "Ravenor" Carnificis
"Dreams... such fertile ground for the seeds of torment. I can sense your ripeness and, oddly enough, it is time for the harvest. Please, save your tears... I intend to reap your sorrow slowly and have ages to discover the things that make you suffer... I am eager to revel in the sweet melody of your screams and the melancholy of your despair..."
              Eldraxus Tzyvioq
Mystic Theurge (and Harper) of Deneir wandering the Sundered Valley in search of (and with the intention of mapping out) places of power, ley-line intersections, and other locations where the divine and arcane intersect...

I was just writing a long winded post, but I just noticed that Grigori explained my points quite well.
PC's may have very good, and well RP'd, reasons for what they did. Your PC may not like it, but I think you can RP the whole thing out IC. Maybe we all should get to know other PCs a little more before we set off on adventure with them.
I know I had a DM event with the banites where we killed the DM controlled guy after a fairly short conversation. We didn't let him finish. I felt I was playing my char well. My char had heard enough of his attempts to sway me to his evil ways and decided to put an end to him.
After all, didn't a DM write somewhere in the forum that DM events aren't necessarily meant to be "won". I've personally never felt that just because a DM is controlling something that I have to get permission to attack it.

I'm only replying with the information given I assumed if someone said a PC ran in and screamed Banite, that they did.

Also, I set my NPCs immortal as long as they're not hostile.

*honorably ends the fight before finishing off his opponent with a hard-knuckled strike to the windpipe*

That's the point I've been hoping would be made this entire time. If the DM doesn't want the NPC to die, they make them immortal. If the NPC is allowed to die or is not important enough to preserve throughout the roleplay, the NPC is attackable and thus fair game. If Fubar don't like it and Fubar is in a rage, Fubar is gonna try and hit it unless it utterly scares the orc-piss out of him... in that case, it's a good idea for everyone else to run as well lol...

(and yes, I should have spoken up sooner, but I wanted to see where it would go before I brought in the facts from the side of the "accused")

Based on some of the statements here I have to ask. Why do any of the mobs have "names" anyway? Just leave it blank and let my char figure out for themselves if this is a cleric or a banite or mossclaw gnoll or just some lost gnoll or whatever.

Everyone wants to be involved when a DM puts out. For my character who is angst, rude and generally doesn't like anyone, it becomes an issue for me because he doesn't like rules, doesn't like walking the line and doesn't like helping anyone unless he benefits from it. I've had to pass up DM events as a result, which is hard but the few that I've been on have been interesting.

For others it may be harder, I suppose. We're all social creatures, reguardless of our characters.

Genji, The happy go lucky Gnome.
Giladel of the house of Ravencrest.

IT GOES 40 MINUTES, but not seconds. Draw off by the pillar of fail!

WEll, the more we get to know characters, the more we can cater to them. It's one thing when new people we don't know pop up and we gotta figure out how to make things work, and it another for us to know "Oh yeah, that guy's a jerk, here's my net for that".

Characters aren't going to be well known at all this far into the server's life. Eventually I suspect most constantly-played characters will have a very well known personality, however. I missed half this thread, by the way. Or, rather, all of it, so I don't know what I'm saying.

                              The problem is this..

It wasn't rp'd.. it was a full on rush.. saying "banite!" then just rushing your character forward gives no chance for anyone to react..

You literaly had to charge through 3 people to get to the baneite..

It could of been Rp'd alot differently.. Like I said.. I let is slide.

I think the better way to of Rp'd this was to actually say your going to bum rush the surrounded Baneite..

My whole point and the point that needs to be brought to everyone and has been a point thats been disregarded sooooo many times from server to server is this:

Please, for the sake of Dm sanity .. you see an evil character that possibley isn't attacking you ( standing there not fighting you. Actually doesn't look like its walking around mindlesly) and possibly is talking to others ( other player characters around seeming to chit chat with the NPC or evil like creature).. DO NOT attack it.. without giving a notification to a DM.. don't do anything to it.. withought giving notification. People cannot type faster then someone casting a spell or clicking the attack button.

Yes people make mistakes once in awhile ..lag may occur and it could happen in a situation.. but im pretty fair I assure you.

I shoudn't have to toggle anything invulnerable nor should i have to rename any character... I do this from time to time yes.. but I shouldn't have to go to these lengths everytime.

This is one of the things that have been beaten over like Rocky .. but for some reason I keep seeing it from time to time and then have to repeat myself.

By doing what my point says.. will make many Dms happy.. big time! You want Dm events and happy Dms..then follow that simple rule.. or I can be just as happy watching Players talk smack to goblins and gnolls saying they own camps and stuff..and then watch them get pummeled by other DM spawned ogres *grabs popcorn and enjoys the show* .

I don't wanna be a jerk or be a police officer.. just wanna have fun ( not just girls but guys too like me ).. we have these rules so people can have fun..

So far I have seen some great RPrs and I am encouraged to run more events because of it. Probably the only people reading this are the ones that are good RPrs and ones that usually follow this rule and others.. .

                                Well, what did you think?!

Many players just rush onto the server without even taken a look at the website. Do you think those players read the rules in the journal or on the sign? Maybe some... but not that many I'd wager.

It's a typical forum situation - you get into great discussion sometimes, but the problem is that many players never get to read it.
