You could still take that one level of paladin or one level of monk and respect people just fine. Its definitely not a matter of respect, but conformity. Sure taking a level of paladin wouldn't make IC sense...but not everything you do *has* to make IC sense. When you send a tell to your buddy who is across the realms and ask him to join you for a hunt, does that make IC sense? Surely your character is not telepathic.

NWN is above all a game. And since it is a game involving people, people ideals and emotions greatly affect it. Ever since NWN 1 came out, the rp community has greatly evolved - in both good and bad ways. The good way is the ability to roleplay like no other online game on earth. The bad way is some communities have taken rp too far and evolved into an elitist cadre of self appointed "nobility". I am saying this to try and make a point. And that point is that we need to keep in mind two things: 1) NWN 2 is a game, and 2) Try not to let roleplay transform you into an uptight player.

On point number 1, it is fun for people to powerbuild. And this game is about having fun. They like taking that one level of paladin, or that one level of monk, because its fun to be able to defeat monsters. How that is wrong I have absolutely no idea. BUT, its wrong to grief, its wrong to break rules, and its wrong to not rp on an rp server. But powerbuilding is not wrong if you roleplay accordingly. Powerbuilding and roleplaying is all the much greater if they work together, not against each other. My own character is kinda powerbuilding himself, but I also roleplay to the best of my abilities, try to contribute to the community, and try to have fun as well as make others around me have fun. I would hope other powerbuilders (if there are any) share these same ideals, and I know for a fact that there are (these are the guys I'm defending). As for the powerbuilders who break rules, its not their powerbuilding thats at fault, its their lack of maturity and sensibility.

Not all of us send tells to our buddys across the world to join us for a hunt. I consider that Metagaming >>. And some people, who powerbuild, like lets say put their cha on 8, still make their char super handsome or beautiful, when they should be really ugly. Some people give their chars the int of 8 as well, and their char is still pretty smart. Most powerbuilding is not roleplayed out.

Then the solution is simple...when a DM catches it, dock some xp. If the player doesn't get the hint, dock some more until they do. That way, we target actions and not people (which is discrimination). And on the flip side of the coin, not all people who don't powerbuild respect others and play nice. Its a double edged sword. Just don't target one population without targetting the other.

Actually you know what, if I was a DM and saw a player not rping his stats, I wouldn't even punish him...because technically, he's not doing anything wrong. He's only guilty of "bad rp", which isn't a crime. What I *would* do is go around and look for those who *do* rp their stats, and for those guys I'd reward well...for excellent rp. So you see, instead of going around and punishing, I'd much rather spend my time going around and rewarding great rp. This way, not only is discrimination eliminated, but the "bad rpers" would soon get the point and try and improve because they'd want to be rewarded. In the end, everyone is happy.

gee, now i feel like those 5 points into my cha were useless, A person could just be a "Bad rper" and lets see... miss about 200 xp points, thats it.

Not if you have been playing on a server for a long time. Even if you hop servers alot, you would be missing in total of *alot* of xp. NWN 1 has been out for what, 5 years now? And NWN 2 has been out 3 months, but it will flourish for many many more years to come. And don't worry, most DMs are going to dispute my own philosophies of thinking anyway, so you have nothing to worry about. I'm sure your 5 points into charisma has gotten you very far so far. Remember I said I wouldn't punish the bad rpers, its just I would reward greatly the good rpers.

Yeah you're right, bad rpers deserve instant death for not rping as good as the rest of us. I'm going to go out and start an anti-bad rper cult, and you could be my captain. Together, we'll vanquish all bad rpers for their heinous crime of not rping as good as the rest of us, that'll teach them. Go Hitler.

                  lmao....go Hitler...lol!

I agree, undeadsteak is one of those purist, but I can still respect that. He/...she? believes they're right, and thats fine. If the pope says not honoring the sabath is wrong...theres a fairly good chance it is. However, he can still be considered an arse if he presses that daily in everybodies face, constantly, 24/7.
The point is, its a medium that really isnt right or wrong, but it would be pleasant if everyone thought the same way (hiel hitler).

*edited note: please do not sue anyone on this board or the site itself for what has been said about hitler. I do not condone his ways, nor do the owners of this forum, yadda yadda, go away lawyers..

Sure, id acutally love that dude.

They dont deserve punishments, but they should atleast be asked to change their stats.

To the post above me: Well, im not pushing this at somones face 24/7. But if this guy wants to change my opinions, hes welcomed to try,but ill show him what -I- think.

I havn't read the last 5 posts, but I will say. If people want to make 18/2 sorc/pally, go ahead. I expect nothing but lawful/good acts, however, or you might find yourself an 18/2 fighter ^_^

well... looks like I'm definitely going to have to rethink my PC then, as I had him planned as rather gimped for (optional) RP reasons, thinking that the environment/players here would discourage powerbuilds and encourage RP builds even if they were gimped, but that doesn't sound like that going to be the case.

Not very fun when people roll powerbuilds and start RPing bullying personalities and you can't do much but get stomped on because you gimped your build intentionally.

Alt PC - Brevin Smoothands (meticulously groomed half orc bard swashbuckler... sort of... sings great, less fighting)

They *do* discourage powerbuilds and encourage rp builds. But its just I think you won't get punished for powerbuilding, as long as its not way too extreme. But if I were you, I'd build whats funnest for you, as long as you roleplay it out.

That doesn't sound like GBX is discouraging powerbuilds. Not saying he's encouraging them, but definitely it's a green light. Nothing in there that discourages powerbuilds.
