My problem is AC lacks a curve. It should be like, after awhile stacking AC doesn't do anything because of the curve. And damage absorbtion would be better if it was more random as well. I'm more of a person who thinks damage absorb should be more important than the AC though. I put on plate, it should absorb damage and deflect attacks. I put on padded armor, it just purely absorb, and no deflect. That's my feeling.

those are the optional rules that they had in previous editions, also where different types of armor had bonus/penalties versus different types of weapons/weapon dmg types.

I enjoy that kind of rules, which I feel add some measure of consistency to the universe even if we are in a fantasy setting. It's also an excellent way to find drawbacks that allow me, as an item creator, to put a little more power into an item in exchange of something.

I'm thinking for exemple: Some chainmails with their supple links don't really do anything to absorb hits from warhammers, instead imprinting their pattern into the wearer's skin when it takes heavy crushing blows. So I'd give that chainmail AC bonus against cuts and arrows, but not bludgeoning damage, and I can then give it a little something else because it has a drawback and it's all balanced.

I know my system is not without inconsistencies, but I hope you will appreciate my work over boring "+1" stuff...

I will inquire about their effect on balance before using any custom materials in vendored equipment, especially since we have a crafting system coming eventually. Keep in mind that very specialized equipment might also only be available to certain factions who have access to the material. Others might only be available through DM-orchestrated storylines, etc etc.

Blue that sounds a lot like Dark Ages of Camelots armor system. Its like paper, rock scissors with chain, plate and leather and the different weapon damage crushing , slashing and piercing.

On a side note, yes fully buff my characters AC is a bit crazy however, I don't let that personally interfere with character to character roleplay.

Against monsters sure, I'm obviously expecting them to hit me things of that nature, but I'm extremely lenient when it comes to player interaction.

If I was fully buffed up with something crazy like 38 AC and Jimmy walked over and punched Syl in the face I tend to go with a realism.

She'd get knocked across the room and probably have a black eye, broken nose and busted lips due to the size of her face and Jimmy's fist.

Another example, I may have 38 AC (Which Syl doesn't actually have just saying) and Trixie is sitting next to her on a stool, she puts her arm around Syl and stabs her in the back. Obviously as Syl was totally unprepared the stab would go off without a hitch, AC and AB be damned.

Those are just a few examples of what I mean.

Not exactly, because, well, heavy armors tend to soak well all these types of damage... but then the disadvantages are just as heavy in the movement and stag cost departments.

There are definitely armor types who need some love, and I'll tend to make them a bit more attractive so that people take at least a minute to really weigh the advantages. But a full plate is still the most (physically) protective armor type around, that's not changing. :P

EDIT: Sorry to hijack your thread with an AC discussion. Grats on finding a character which suits your style and that you'll enjoy.

                  Four words:

                  Leafweave armor teh hawt.

                  ~

As far as what deepshades is saying, it makes perfect sense for an rp server, and is a good way to handle different situations. Flavory goodness.

Otherwise I'd be blowing my feats on things like:

                  Overturn Table
Improved Grab Some Dude by the Throat
                  Greater Expectorate
~ Sigrun Hael - Ranger of the Viridale

~ Aoden Haven - Former Swordcaptain

                    Or feats like:

                    Weapon focus: broken bottle
                    Fight while intoxicated
                    Swollen-eye fight
                    Two fisted drinking

As for the parry and armor. I believe the skill is impacted by the armor check penalty, so it depends on the light armor. But regardless, the skill should still be well enough offset by your ranks, ability modifier, and any related feats.

There are some items that give a plus to the parry skill as well. Check the shops for them, that should help even more. And congrats on settling on your main character! Look forward to seeing him in game

Edit: Oh and as far as tactics for multiple enemies, try and use the landscape to choke them off or pull only one or two at a time. Of course the better, and intended course of action would be to party up with one or more people.
Leather armor has a zero armor check penalty, so that's what I'm using. My parry skill is now 12, thanks to a pair of +2 boots. I'm salivating over the rapier with modifiers, but I keep coming up short on cash (potions, recently bought a bow). Still, I like the direction my character os moving.

I've got the pre-reqs for duelist now, but I'm uncertain what feat to take next. I'm torn between weapon focus (rapier) and two weapon fighting (and eventually two weapon defense.

On the one had, upping my defense and getting a further bonus to parry is appealing. On the other hand, moving towards improved criticals is also attractive, and the bonus damage for duelist only works if you go one handed.
