I don't have plants, and if I did, you'd be scared to bare your arse to them.

        *reads a Raise Dead scroll*

I'd just like to add on the topic that last week-end I had an illumination when with two friends we decided to start pirates who survived the sinking of their vessel. We've been having a BLAST playing them, and I think I like Roger even more than my other character Drado. I can be rude, stinking, self-centered, use "bad language", man it's so fun, even if I don't know shizzle about ships and the associated nautical terms in english.

At the same time, I wanted also to make this character a gameplay test, because many people of the server told me that Parry was horribly broken, that dex fighters get the shaft, etc, while GBX assured me that Parry worked with enough focus into it. So was born first Roger, a swashbuckler with two rapiers. I took a little mix of rogue-fighter for starters to unlock the cap of many helpful skills who relate to piratry (Open Lock, Bluff and Tumble), which I'll then use my high intelligence to cross-class points into while raising fighter levels and keeping Parry maxed.

Results: woah! First, that rogue level was worth gold, as it opens many doors for flexibility as to how I can develop my character in the future (I really need to sink some points in Bluff). Then, parry absolutely rocks! Against melee opponents it's sour cream on potatoes. I equipped Roger with the many available pieces of equipment for Dex fighters and now got a +17 Parry modifier in total at level 4, which means I roll a D20+17 against the modified attack roll of the enemy meeler. If I beat his roll by 5 (Improved Parry), I block and he gets a counter in his face, which happens quite often. With the duelist class that adds its level to Parry, I'm guessing it nearly becomes overpowered, if it isn't for the fact that:

        - I do very little damage with rapiers (3-5-10-6...), when placed besides other warriors (12-16-14-38...)
        - I have no defense against archers who tear me down since my AC is poor compared to a plate-clad STR warrior.
        - I have no particular defense against spellcasters or afflictions like monks
        - PvP-wise I don't have knockdown and am weak against it, and I won't ever have HipS, Bigbys, Death spells or Harm, thus I'm gonna be very easy to kill.

So the result: a Parry-focused character is completely playable, and can be a great tank against a large boss with a mean Attack Bonus if supported by a party, but against a group of archers he's got a big target painted on the forehead. Dex fighters have their weaknesses but they have their place in a party. I look forward to appearing on the Statistics page as the first Duelist on the server.

Now you see why I took that first level of rogue.

I have actually built a rogue/fighter/duelest on another server. I loved the character, but gods did his ass get kicked all over the place. Though he had plenty of surprises in hand for a few of those nasty melee types.

Yeah, I don't expect the ride to be so smooth at later levels, but at least it's gonna be challenging, not impossible nor cheese.
