I say what others have said in this long post, come up with an idea of what type of character you want to play, then that will lead to race, class, and RP.

What the heck is one level of bard anyway? Someone who decided to take a few arcane teaching classes on the weekend and had to endure some fine arts education on the side?

LOL vrog is so not RDD HAHAHAAHHA vrog can barely make fire let alone cast spells lol and to hear vrog siging would make most ears bleed. no vrog is simple Fighter/Frenzed bersker. simple as that and that is what he will stay (baiscly cause he cant be anything else LOL)

but ya i think RDD should be DM aproved . Its not as rampent here as it was in NWN1 servers god everyone had RDD my last character on a server that allowed it: Bard 23/Rdd10/wm 7 add in this server allowed Dev. Crit. duel weild krukis and fight was over with before it started. it was fun for short time till every other character was same build or damn near. This place had so much magic and imunites that mages and sorcs were useless everyone resisted every type of damage. Iam glad this is low magic makes intresting the deversity (spelling) of the characters you run into idont think vrog has ran into the exact same character types yet. I love that

Someone whom endured the hardships of learning to become a superb dancer/singer/entertainer and can do so with extreme elegance and grace?

Going to say it again cause I can; DnD standards say; Level 1 class characters are extremely significant and awesome... Level 10 you can stand against a kings army alone and people wouldn't be like 'that's suicide' and instead be like 'wow he's awesome.'

Though on Sundren I suppose that's different.

I think you meant to say: 'wow, he was awesome.'

What if the king is the king of dragons? Doesn't that change the rules a bit?

It's a problem that someone could see coming in the future... Lots, lots, lots of people becoming "important" and imposing themselves with the power to move continent or call forth tsunamis.

I mean, how many level 20 clerics are there in the canon Forgotten Realms lore? There's the legendary Cadderly, cleric of Deneir 20, who interrogates powerful demons for breakfast. Fzoul Chembryl is a Cleric of Bane 17 / Hierophant 2, that's as close as the evil deities get? No wait, there's Ilharess Triel Baenre of Menzoberranzan, who is Cleric of Lloth 20. We'll all agree they are ridiculously powerful character as described in the books, holding power in some cases over entire cities and organizations with bottomless ressources.

How does that translate over in Sundren? Such levels of power I think will be a huge challenge for the DM team to handle when, well, each player faction has their gang of level 15-20 repesentatives... If any pen and paper DM ever tried to manage a campaign with epic characters, they know it's no Jello to cook up. On the other side, each player has the right to become important, to become powerful. I'm not really proposing anything, I'm just throwing the thought around. I know that there's a dynamic level cap (very cool script there, by the way) raising with play time, and a hard cap at level 20 for monster xp, all over the fact that certain classes and races are dynamically restricted.

Let's continue the topic with this: do you think that those measures will be enough to balance the average power of the PCs?

Yes it is.. So far no one has come close to breaking their caps and most likely won't until the staff and server is ready for it. Hence, all the procautions taken in scripting the level caps and xp curve. You would have to be a pretty long term, AMAZING Rp'er or diligent one who proves themselves over an EXTENDED amount of time to be able to reach epic levels. I am not trying to sound elitist or discriminate player types nor telling anyone what is considered "good" rp. We just want players to do their best as we do our best as a staff to provide rewards to players that put their "best" efforts forward.

As it was said by GBX before, Grinders vs. Rp'ers.. Rp'ers always win here. It doesn't have to "OMGAWESOMENESSUBERPSOFEPICNESS!!!" Just a good, CONSISTENT effort will get you noticed.

Glad to hear, I guess I've been worrying for nothing then.

But, well, it's a pretty slow day at work, so I have nothing better to do than to think about Sundren... geez!! Is this some MMO-like addiction? :P

The levels in Sundren don't scale to P&P. Sorry guys, it's not possible to do well in a PW. I'd say... if I had to compare level scales... getting level 20 on Sundren is like getting level 8 in P&P. Getting level 30 is like getting level 20 in P&P.

It's easy to do in a PW, with the appropriate programming knowledge, which I don't possess... Regardless, the way Sundren was set up, it's now pretty much impossible.

Kasso, it's not easy to do. People will level fast regardless and not "Earn" the concept of the power they wield. Sure, if we want to make it so people have to survive for a few years, it'd be possible, but we can't.

Please don't reply telling me I'm wrong because you know how I get Kasso, I'll come to your house and poop on all your potted plants. Say I won't! Say I won't! That's what I thought!

In a CRPG it's hard to do without killing all feeling of progress.

How do you emulate 15 years of training in a game? You have to pick out the highlights, like, the few goblin raids...

I only say it would be easy, because I'd make encounters via DM only and hire a massive staff... Then make it typical exp via the DnD exp charts for encounter rewards.

Or alternatively, create the random encounter thing that can spawn once every few hours during transitions from one larger more important area to another.

Less encounters for more exp is <3 in my books...

And all things I say on this forum Godbeast are purely opinionated, I won't try to contradict you or your mighty programming knowledge. *Nods* Sundren was designed a certain way, and I enjoy playing here regardless.
