Oh yes and the problem with sneak attack is perhaps the same with attacks of opportunity. Sometime when you attack a spittlefist boltman you get attacks of opportunity everytime he shoots. other times you don't.

Sorc EK is actually very powerful. Its ac can easly reach in the 40s and thats around level 12 or 13 I belive. Its abblity to cast many more spells then wizards lets it fight in combat alot longer. Such as many many mirrior immage spells=you dont een get hit most of the time. Need to attack at range? Spam a few issacs missle storms. In short, as proven here on the server with Tamara. Its very good.Originally posted by Brenil View PostHmm... Sorcerer/EK is kind of a bad combo, yeah? Only builds I've seen get you level 8 spells, some medicore fighting ability and Still Spell (so really offensive spells are capped at 7). Plus you have kind of middle of the road charisma and strength, therefore the only thing that makes that build even somewhat useful (that I can see anyway, maybe I'm wrong) is the numerous spells per day.
So far I'm leaning toward Wizard or Battle Cleric... maybe Rogue or Bard... I've never really played either before, so I don't know what to expect (except from the Rogue, which I can glean enough from my single player character who was rogue/fighter/duelist to make an estimation of how it'd play).
.
For wizards, they seem to be a dime a dozen here. Very few have some orgional good story with them.
For battle clerics, thats just become the standard type
. If you want cleric, but a bit more orgional, such as more of a caster cleric, id say try a app for favored soul, since its alot more spells. Or just normal cleric and max your WIS instead of half it being STR and CON.
Sacrifice everything as the final darkness falls... in the end, all that awaits you is death. Only then will you understand - you've been following in my footsteps all along.
So come then, you heroes! Come in all your power and glory! For in the final hour, all must serve the one... true... king.

According to server stats there are only 3 EKs, and I know for a fact two are wizardsOriginally posted by nutranurse View PostAnd we have plenty of sorcerers. Most just also are fighters.... ((Damned EK!))
As for wizards, I don't remember seeing that many (pure wizards I mean)... there are sorts of people running around in plate-mail throwing about arcance spells, but I haven't got a clue what those are
.
In fact, I don't remember seeing many 'pure' classes of any type... Half the time I can't even figure out even approximately what people are. But, yeah, rogues and bards work!
Here's a novel idea... think up a character concept/background ans ome objectives, then pick a a class accordingly! You'll have nore fun playing the character you want to play, and that's what it's all about!

Eh, em. Let me pitch something that I said earlier and something I did with most of my PCs
HERE IS A SUGGESTION!
Don't do some specific as hell build, that only limits RP like crazy. Go with the flow, but do so with a general idea in mind (that way they are a dynamic character, not static....)
Edit: And while a static character may be interesting, it is bland. It is kind of like a sheet of paper with one amazing drawing on it. Sure, the drawing kicks serious ass and the artists is probably amazing, but the clay sculpture of the same figure can be moulded and made better as time progresses!~Lyonette L'cyr (Rook)-- Deader than Malaclypse
~Megandlla Uyth 'Llar -- In a land Far Far away!
~Emilee Mistwalker -- A Female Sigrun? Pfft, far cooler--.... eh.... Hated!!

I cannot stress this point enough. I hate, hate, hate, hate characters which will not change no matter what situation you throw at them, and no matter how hard you try to mould them, inspire them or break them. Three-dimensional characters are better than two-dimensional characters.Originally posted by nutranurse(that way they are a dynamic character, not static....)

That sums it up rather nicely, people should be thinking less of builds and more about what class(es) or feats the character would have or use.Originally posted by Machiavelli View PostHere's a novel idea... think up a character concept/background ans ome objectives, then pick a a class accordingly! Think about things like your character's fighting style, way to dress, etc. and take feats/skills and buy gear in accordance to that.

While I agree to the last three to four posts, I also wanna add that that you should have a reason for each class, feat and skills you take. makes you char better react to situations that come out of no where...
e.g. "why are you so good in diplomacy?" because so I can go further in dialouges with NPCs" (not good answer) "because my character was the youngest in a family of 20 children and since the weakest needed other means to prove himself. and at that with skill of words.
Also I must state that it is good that you ask yourself what chars, classes and races are most on sundren since the more different chars there are on sundren the more interesting groups and discussions will be.Mirsli Skindar

The opposite end of the spectrum is also a valid way of character creation, though. I came up with the idea for Hrogash based entirely on class. And then I asked why he's that class and how would that make him feel and act and think.
And thus, you have Hrogash, Mightiest of Mighties, Crusher of All That Stands Before His Awesome And Terrible Might.
And he's a very fun character to play.
All forms of character generation are valid, and not one is better than the other.- Hrogash - The Invincible Avatar of Gruumsh, Soon to be LORD OF ALL THAT EXISTS, BOW DOWN TO HROGASH FOR HROGASH IS MIGHTY!

True enough, this can work too (and Hrogash is a cool character).Originally posted by PinguThePenguin View PostThe opposite end of the spectrum is also a valid way of character creation, though. Hehe, I've been guilty of playing some pretty static characters (Torgrim, but he was too dense to change much). I stand by my earlier post about having a good starting character concept... they can't change if you aren't sure who they are and what they're like in the first place!Originally posted by Echelon13 View PostI cannot stress this point enough. i agree. good starting concepts really go a long way to help making a character fun to play - i've played characters based solely on their class features and gimmicks, and it tends to get boring rather quickly.
A lot of it also depends on your character's relationship with others I think. alyrian was very lucky to have made some really good friends early on.

Well. I haven't really been able to explore so much. But usually first impression of server encourages players to choose certain kind of character to play, because it's just not fun to get kicked by goblins all day. Really. And particularly rogues are not very good at uh, anything useful on lower levels.
Of course there's the "uniqueness" factor too and other aspects from character background. But really first thing you do is you look around and see what kind of stuff is there, what kind of setting you have etc. and then try to make character fitting there so it would be fun to play. What I mean is, it would require some kind of masochist to log in and die on first monster you see every day. Maybe it fits for some but not really my thing.
Just my 5 cents from a newbie.

Don't solo on Sundren. End of story. People fail to realize this is not a server intended for soloing, you will almost certainly die.The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.
