A scythe does have two damage dice (2d4 instead of 1d8), so the damage results are biased towards the middle range and are more reliable. It also averages half a point higher per hit than the longsword-type weapons. As far as averaged damage over a lot of hits goes, when you even out the huge criticals with the inferior base damage, it's about like a greatsword; it's only when the Weapon Master can turn it into OMG SCYTHE OF DOOM that it pulls ahead. This advantage is instantly lost when facing the undead.

I'd throw in a vote for the warmace. No one loves it, because its damage die is horrible in comparison to other twohanders, and its critical range is also. The warhamer is, in general, better thanks to that juicy x3 critical modifier, and it's onehanded. Halberd's in a similar boat, though not quite so much.
And yes. Darts are TEH AWESOME. Especially since Enlarge spells apply the extra magical damage to thrown weapons...
