I can honestly say i have come in contact with a couple of 'good' palladins who found out I was a Banite and they did not immediately attack, so there are some who RP it properly, and since they did not fall under one of Bane's despised gods Neither did I immediately go on the offensive. However had they been under Helm or Cyric where Bane's dogma is pretty much 'kill on sight and hang for all to see.' I would have no choice as a cleric of Bane but to attack.

However even as a cleric I find a grey area, when I came into contact with a Helmite who was obviously stronger than me. I did not deny that I was 'evil' but made sure not to mention I followed Bane. They did not attack me for being Evil simply gave me a stern look and said they'd be watching me. Though if they knew I was a cleric of Bane it would have been 'swoosh, clank, gurgle' dead little cleric.

So what I'm saying I guess, is that it doesn't have to be your good I'm evil lets fight, and even a Banite will play the ropes if the time comes to hide himself, though I uttered a hundred prayers and sacrificed a farmer for my insolence later.

I tend to agree with Sonavlich that even though you may be evil or good aligned, there are times when you are tested and you fail, there are times that you come across a situation and you do something good even though you are evil, sometimes you are tempted and you do something bad/evil.

The world is not black and white and Sundren is not black or white. Sometimes the RP is so much better when you act with humanity or succumb to that little temptation. It does not make you good or evil in the long run, it merely shows that you are truly human or pick your race.

I know this exists but I've actually got a question for you on how it's calculated:

I know that possessing a Blackguard aura instantly sets you to Overwhelming. And I know that being a Divine caster who worships said deity bumps you up on the scale too.

But how is it figured for mundanes? Is a LE fighter always a Faint/Moderate evil, or will his alignment scale (i.e. the 2 numbers that determine your alignment) effect what he reads as?

If you are of good alignment, and the strongest evil aura’s power is overwhelming (see below), and the HD or level of the aura’s source is at least twice your character level, you are stunned for 1 round and the spell ends.
          3rd Round

The power and location of each aura. If an aura is outside your line of sight, then you discern its direction but not its exact location.
          Aura Power

An evil aura’s power depends on the type of evil creature or object that you’re detecting and its HD, caster level, or (in the case of a cleric) class level; see the accompanying table. If an aura falls into more than one strength category, the spell indicates the stronger of the two.
          Creature/Object __________________| Faint _______| Moderate | Strong ___| Overwhelming
          Evil creature* (HD) _______________| 10 or lower __| 11-25 ___| 26-50 ___|51 or higher
          Undead (HD) _____________________| 2 or lower __| 3-8 _____| 9-20 ____| 21 or higher
          Evil outsider (HD)_________________| 1 or lower ___| 2-4 _____| 5-10 ____| 11 or higher
          Cleric of an evil deity** (class levels) | 1 __________| 2-4 _____| 5-10 ____| 11 or higher
          Evil magic item or spell (caster level) | 2nd or lower | 3rd-8th __| 9th-20th _| 21st or higher

*- Except for undead and outsiders, which have their own entries on the table.
**- Some characters who are not clerics may radiate an aura of equivalent power. The class description will indicate whether this applies. ((note, this includes Blackguards))
If I recall, Sundren/NWN2 takes TOTAL CLASS LEVEL into account, not just class levels in divine stuff, so a level 10 fighter/1 cleric registers as an overwhelming aura.

It isn't to say that faint evil auras shouldn't be taken seriously, but rarely are those with them a cascading detriment to the world around them. Where a Banite cleric's presence can mean far reaching effects or a demon overlord, that rogue who may have committed forms of murder still won't be as impacting.

Simple rule, if it's a strong aura, it's probably got the ability to fuck up a lot of shit. And if it's overwhelming GOD HELP US!

One thing to keep in mind on blackguards is this:

                    Aura of Despair (Su)
Beginning at 3rd level, the blackguard radiates a malign aura that causes enemies within 10 feet of him to take a -2 penalty on all saving throws.

You probably feel uneasy to even mundane people when you're a level 3+ blackguard, but you are a champion of darkness. Keep in mind it does say enemies so this might not always be on, but when someone is fighting a blackguard, you feel that fuggin evil!
