Both Chinese and Korean lower-grade troops used various forms of shield; often rectangular for the Koreans and round for the Chinese. A portion of the Chinese forces fighting during the Boxer Rebellion were still equipped with round shields as late as 1900, just before the Chinese forces were properly modernised.

In Japan in the earliest phase of development (around the 3rd and 4th centuries AD), strange rectangular shields with in-curved sides and a rounded top were used by the lower-grade troops. These shields were no longer in use by the 10th century.

Later, and before the 19th century modernisation of the Japanese Army, large numbers of large, rectangular wooden shields fitted with a leg at the rear (equivalent to the western pavisse) were used on the battlefield, within fixed fortifications and in siege lines. These were portable and could be re-positioned as required, but left both hands free to use a bow or matchlock musket. They were thick enough to stop both arrows and bullets.

Upper-class Japanese warriors (bushi or samurai) never used a shield since both hands were needed for the bow, spear or sword. Their armour was designed to absorb both arrow hits and sword thrusts.

I dont see anything about it being dishonorable , though the feat thing could suck. This thing says their armor was designed to absorb the damage, this is game little different, does not state it was dishonorable though.

Next person to quote real world Samurai lore is getting a bowl of cheetos with poop on it.

This is D&D, it's not Feudal Japan.

Therefore, look at the class, it's description, and go with that. If you are having trouble, this thread has tons of suggestions.

So.. I think most of Roland's issues is simply that in comparison to pretty much any other fighter, Samurai are fail. I feel like I contributed to this post now.

In all seriousness, Focus on getting your AC up in any way you can. Magic boots, magic cape, magic whatever. You're going to be hurting just because you don't have a shield. (Something you'll have to deal with if you want to keep your roleplay, because let's face it, the classes aren't meant to be balanced. They're meant to fill a certain role.) The way I see it, Samurai aren't front-line fighters. They should focus on dishing out a lot of damage as fast as possible. Which they can do dual-wielding with a strength focus. So pretty much.. stop trying to tank.
Wow! I actually posted something on the forums!

You'll probably want to avoid the cornflakes as well then.

except the wiki doesnt state this at all... sure it states i get dual weilding but in it it doesnt say armor follows regular armor in stats.... and you cant exactly make a junk charecter to check

Also i rp strict samurai....and due to such a samurai would not be used to this lands armor thus if worn would fall down unable to use it

as well a samurai doesnt normally use a cape thus if used he would trip on his cape due to being unable to fight properly in it

btw can i get those cheetohs with extra yellow juice? XD

I just heard you say you gimp yourself for RP Doesn't that mean life will be harder?

I mean, if I play a fighter who feels armor is cowardly, doesn't that mean I'm going to likely get hurt more in the world?

You must be new here. You don't ask GBX to piss in your cheetos/wheaties/cornflakes/bowl of whatever. Because he will.

The visual representation of an item in-game doesn't have to be how you imagine it on your character. I mean, you can't be like, "My mundane sword glows with awesome mcsweetpower because I said so!" But rp'ing that your cloak is actually a banner isn't going to bother anyone.
