That's... an interesting take on it. It does specifically state in Libris Mortis that the Palemaster is never classified as undead, so it seems a bit strange that the detect undead spell should detect an aura on them. Not entirely sure where you got your necrophilliac thing from either that's... new

It was at the very last page of the MM I. Thanks. There's some more debilitating stuff and one more (possible) bonus in the same 'category' as the d12 hit dice that isn't on that SRD list as you quoted it, but I digress. Too annoying to work around all the standard specs for classes such as hit dice, skillpoints, high/low saves and attack bonus progression anyway.

Sweet, resurrection makes vampires mortal again. Im rolling cleric and resurrecting every single one of their sorry asses!
You should make a Mystic Theurge. First use Bigsby's, then resurrect

Is Sundren going to play that Resurrection and True Resurrection remove vampirism? What would the necessary conditions be? I can't help but have happy thoughts of trolling philosopher...

Alas, there is a convenient caveat to that effect:

If the subject’s soul is not willing to return, [Raise Dead] does not work...
As far as I know, all vampires so far have been willingly converted to such, and so would likely just deny the resurrection.

What if they are girls themselves?

Oh wait, scratch that. The female vampires don't like men, either

The ress thing on undead in the spell says they have to accept it. SO no unwilling rasies. Ahhh my only consern for vamps would be the "staking" cause reading though all these posts you can see everyone plotting and sceaming how to get the vamps and a staked vamp is simply going to be perm argument over and over and over. Also why is everyone worry about the vamps so much? You guys start all the fights and mist us way more then we have ever beating you as of late :P anyways back on to the real reason for this tread. What we need are real lesbian vampires.

This is great! Really truly awesome... as long as there is a warning. Just triggering a spawn right on top of someone is totally unfair and I think and abuse of the game mechanics. (side note* hate when DMs do this to PCs fastest way to make me log off)

Some characters spend a lot of effort learning to detect things and like to (or have to because they are not power builds) approach encounters with technique.

If you were to build random encounters that were a challenge for a fully buffed cleric-tank-warmachine and a ranger/rouge unbuffed tripped the same thing. Well that is just cruel. and unreallistic, soon everyone will be walking around buffed to the 9s all the time just to avoid getting spawned on and pwn'd. (This is already a problem though the spell cost has fixed some of this.)

All I'm saying is that, like your garlic idea, warnings should be in place. maybe based on spot listen search track or the like. You disregard the warnings then it's your tuckus on the line.

Spawning creatures far enough from the trigger point is also key. something to give the player time to react.

I think a pretty clear point was made; no perms can be done from one player to another. Just like you can't kill a guy, mount his corpse on a small raft at sea and shoot a flame arrow into him to ensure that noone can even find his ashes. A staked vampire would be just the same: dead and free to resurrect.

Yeah.. this. Also, random encounters should obviously not occur on top of encounters already there. That might be raising the bar a bit too high.

but do we "know" this as IC lore? and if so will that lead to a sudden flood of vamp biteing and rez healing?

I think the real question here is: do you have 10+ ranks (or so) in Knowledge: Religion? Or have you heard it from a character who does?

Your character shouldn't even know about garlic and stakes if they've not either studied the matter or heard of it IC. So the short answer is no, you probably don't know IC

This used to happen ALOT on the Moonlight & shadows server years back. Razor boars that kill on a failed reflex save spawning right on top of you when you enter the area (it was a tight pitch black corridor as well). I was currently playing a halfling duelist with a through-the-roof reflex save and I still popped it dozens of times due to these things.. worse than Rust Monsters and Assassin Vines by a longshot!

Some great looking stuff though GBX, cant wait to see what new enemies and stuff you have planned!
