Personally I have never viewed a Priest and a Cleric as the same, before the Paladin class existed the Cleric was fulfilling the role of the Holy Warrior.

Of course I don't see anything wrong with RP'ing a Cleric as either/or, but I tend to base it more on the dieties dogma than anything else.

Its a really good resource that alot of time and effort was spent writing and organizing and should be used.

Here is what I think clerics and priests are supposed to be like when they cast spells.

      Starts at 00:20 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8RYLk...eature=related

      Starts at 02:32 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XY9jO...eature=related

Death spells starts killing people at 2:30, protection spells at 4:30 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XL3kJixE6ho

This one has nothing to do with spells, I just think this berserker is cool, starts 3:40 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XY9jO...eature=related

It had my eyes rolling. Couldn't bear to watch after 1:30

The priest casting the spell at 20 seconds seemed fitting, but the rest of dialogue and fighting animations seemed sort of off..

Then again, I'm no great fan of anime.

Yodglum does not preach but does promote the idea’s of his god in both worlds and actions. He will speak to all of the values of Kossuth. Asks if other’s need “Kossuth’s” blessings (when parting). And always verbally blesses those as they leave; "May Kossuth's flame light your way and burn those in it!" He even listens to others and have found similarities with their beliefs and his, thus he does not fight the Veritas even though it would be prime grinding for one immune (sort to speak) for fire.

Not saying all is like him… there are many I have no idea who they follow… even though after venturing with them for some time, one would think their god’s name would be mentioned.

              As for…

I try to play Cruven based on his Lord's Dogma, which most Red Blades *points to Mara* and Tempus followers will see. I already know that preaching about war and pillaging probably wont work all to well so he serves through slaughter and likes to contribute to fights by aiding people by pissing them off more.

When casting spells I usually get to lazy personally to type some speech for each spell but if I'm only going to be casting a single spell for RP purposes such as raise dead I have him say a word and use his holy symbol in one way or another.
                  My to-be toon:
                  Shafiq Al-Mawt: Zakharan myrkulite.

                  My tomb of old toons:
Cruven Schlachten - Blood Reaver of Garagos, Blackwood Company Elite, Hellstrom Head of Security
Marcus Waynard- Horned Harbinger, fear his best bud Frank!... and Jim, Bob, Sue, and Jane...
Davlamin Frostfoot - Frosty Snowflake, the Frozen Fist of Auril, sworn enemy of the Second Wind fire pit.

If everyone playing a cleric type just sauces it up a bit when interacting others it will add a lot of flavor to Sundren.
Clerics can have a lot of different personalities but yes the player should take into consideration what his PC's god would expect of the cleric.
For example I believe if I prayed to the god of Hate, strife and fear everyday I would end up burning with rage inside all the time ready to explode into a murderous frenzy rather easily. The stronger your faith, the more you would struggle with controlling it. A church that focused on strife might have a hard time existing as a organization altogether. How can you keep everyone focused on a goal if you can't get along?
Perhaps thats where the fear comes in. Carry out your orders or get chopped into little pieces.
I don't think all clerics would be preachers. Large churches have more then one pastor. One will be the lead pastor and be out there on the pulpit preaching to the masses on Sunday. The other pastors fulfill many other tasks within the church.
Councilor, worship leader, teacher, mission out reach etc, yet they are all pastors or in DnD, clerics.

I love playing clerics. Not because of their buffs, but for their significance to me personally. No I don't worship Bane in RL, rather the opposite.

On a serious note your thread has true meaning. Yes most of the posts here are “I play my cleric right” (I’m included - not so much Ash) but there are many more out there that do not give any indication of their lord. Not that many are going to step forward and say I do not play my cleric based on my god, I play if for the power. But hopefully some of those players will read this thread and spice it up a bit. I would love if a toon backed out of a fight or venture for it did not a line with their beliefs’.

Rogue, I sense a bit of bitterness. =P

I avoid playing clerics altogether. I stick to my overpowered PrC, and that's that.

Peridan Twilight, one-eyed dog of the Legion, deceased.

I completely agree with you, Kaizen, for the most part. But what about clerics/favored souls of outlawed gods? What about clerics of Cyric or Mask or Shar? They would likely be really secretive about their worship.

Oh... And if you want to punk a cleric/favored soul, make an assassin and death attack him while he's unprepared. If he is prepared, use a scroll or a wand to dispel him. HiPS and UMD are your best friends. Honestly, I think rogues and particularly assassins are the most cheesy and overpowered classes in the game. However, one has to go down a really long, painful, frustrating path in order to reach that point of overkill. Low level rogues are just tragic but that's okay because it pays off gloriously eventually.

If someone isn't prepared or the attacker is simply more prepared I fully expect the attacker to win and that's hardly exclusive. A weapon master, frenzied berserker, wizard, another cleric, hell even a DD with a lot of good gear, or anyone else really can do the same thing to anyone else. It's not overpowered in the slightest, it's an ambush. The only difference with assassins and hipsters and stuff is the fact that they have an easier time than others re-opening if something goes wrong. In the end it still comes down to the element of surprise which you can't really nerf it's just something that happens sometimes.
