Bottem line: Healing kits in battle dont get an auto take 20. They are a consumable that is used up, like a scroll or healing potion.

They are like cheap healing that can be way better than costier potions and replace a healer. Buy a potion that heals 2d8+1? Why, I can use a "kit" that will heal me 1d20+10 at a low level!
It also cheapens the skill in a way, like Spellcraft. People don't take it because it's something their chars know how to do, they take it because of the bonuses

Healing kit with no + is not magical. Also, potions of healing always heal a certain amount. Healing kits do not. If you drink a potion of cure serious wounds and heal 30, and you have +10 heal skill and use a kit in combat, the potion will likely heal better every time.
