Equip the fishing rod, activate it while you are near any water.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.
To be fai-- I still cannot find a fishing spot =_= I tried all over Aquor, failed, when to the Hills, realised that it was the New hills I was in; only place to go seems to be the Port.... and Eme hates the stench of people... and the Sailors give her lewd looks...

Are fishing rods supposed to be non-equippable for certain races or classes? The blasted thing is reddened out for my half-orc shaman. Kinda disappointing to be blocked from that option for a follower of Istishia.
Random other note: the model for the fishing hat is too small for his humongous head.
To be fair, neither is RPing, and we get xp for that
My post was made MUCH before RP XP came out.
And you can now gain XP from fishing. As long as your fishing with someone, and they're RPing. Simply clicking a rod over and over to cast it in the water, I see no reason why you should get XP for it.
There's actually probably over a dozen places to fish in Sundren, you just need to look harder.

I'm having the same trouble with my elven spirit shaman.
The fishing system was a community made project we used on Sundren, if something is bugged like certain classes or races not working with it, the original owner is responsible for maintaining his work.

Though in the future when we implement crafting certain fish will have highly prized attributes in the crafting process so it will be more than just something to pass time with.
