Seriously, and I mean no offense. But this is nowhere, even remotely close to the PhB.
It will cost you a fixed marketprice depending on the spell, XP 1/25 of the marketprice, and it will take you one full day per 1000gp value you need to scribe. On top of that you cannot scribe more than one scroll per day!

So if you want to get close to PhB and PnP. First a scroll level 1 would cost about 12 gold to make, it would also cost you 1 XP and take a full day to scribe.
Had that been a level 9 scroll it would cost you about 1912 gold & 153 XP, and it would take you 4 days. And this is asuming you write it at the lowest casterlevel possible.

    Hell I'm all for that!

Real prices and full scribe time too. It would also improve the RP between a wizard and his apprentice(If it even exists). and it would stop abuse of, for example, Raise dead!

I actually like that idea. Atleast it makes the feat work as it's supposed to do.

Or boil it down to an XP cost, a gold cost and a one scroll per day limit.

    Howsat?

I'm with you there Vichtor, as you probably guessed from my posts above (though I don't know about the PHB).

Given that Saulus has already posted to the thread saying there'll be no change, it's effectively a dead thread (in terms of whether there'll be any alteration to scribing) so there's nothing to derail!

          Tch. Relax.

And second, Its not THAT big of an XP loss, gold is much better. Otherwise all thewizards are going to have their hands on lvl 9 spells so easily. It makes scroll much more expensive.

I have a list of the scribing costs for the OC, so I'll check this out and let you know if it worked.

Note I didn't say it follows the PhB rules for scribing...I said it follows the Wizard's outlook. I don't think there would be a way to apply the actual PhB rules to the game; specifically because of the time requirements on scribing. However, I think the high cost is a good balance to it. It requires patience, time, and effort to accumulate what you want (especially on higher level scrolls), and it makes you think twice about whether you are going to give access of that knowledge to another...or if that extra hidden punch up your sleeve is worth that investment.

Wizards are unstoppable if they walk into a situation prepared. This is a simple fact. I like the system because it lends weight on the choices you make before entering a volitile situation or preparing for a potentially dangerous endeavor. There are ways to create even more versatility and potential flexibility to any situation, but no matter what, the wizard is going to have to sit down and invest a large amount of SOMETHING to do it. In the PhB it's a balance of time, experience, and money. In NWN it's just money, and that has to make up for the lack of the other two...especially time.

Gotta agree with Vichtor once again, the above expresses what I failed to very effectively.

Ok, I tested this out with a few spells. It seems the prices are still exactly the same as in the OC for scroll scribing. I seem to recall posting the costs on these forums a few months ago.....I'll look and see if I can find and link to them.

I'd just like to say, if you ever need a wand, come to Val! Especially my fellow bards who really can't do ANYTHING at levs 1 - 5 apart from leech spells from other spell pools
I'll need a scroll to work on though.

hmm... wait a minute... low levels won't have enough money to pay for a wand would they... *goes to rethink market plan*

Ok...can't find it, so I'll post under a separate topic. The list was re-tested for MotB for all of the original spells. I have yet to test out the new spells added for MotB. Just use the list to make sure you have enough money, and to plan ahead for what you'd like to make.

                        I get your point.

But just for the sake of the healthy discussion, let me ask you this.
Do you personally think the "Scribe scroll feat" useful for anyone but the wizard? Add to that the wizard gets it for free and it's not a "wasted" feat, like it would be for a cleric or druid, etc.

And on a sidenote, I keep getting the feeling that you think my suggestion is "cheaper" or "easier", than what exsists. Is it really? I would think an XP cost would be far more taxing than gold.(But then I am not sure since in new to this)

Well if you were a druid, say, and you had flame weapon... if you came to me with a scroll and 25000 stags I could make you a wand

After having read Saulus' and Aux's answer to the thread, I understand the reasons for doing so (I didn't know there wasn't any scroll vendored above level 3). It makes the spell you choose on Level Up very valuable and scribing actually useful, where it's often overlooked on other servers in favor of the cheaper zomgscrollmerchantz with level 1-9 spells. It actually allows wizards a certain specialization, and balances them out a bit with sorcerers who still can only have very few different spells (you CAN have variety, but it will cost you time and efforts!). I've seen an occasionnal level 4 or even level 5 spell drop from humanoids, and now I know their real value and will keep them close to me.

                              Blue Wyrm and everyone else....

                              You keep talking about wizards!

Let me for shits and giggles bring it back to usefulness and playability.
Is the scribe scroll feat useful for anyone but a wizard?
Why would a cleric ever choose to take Scribe scroll, when it's close to impossible to benefit from. Only wizards can "abuse"(Harsh word really, but i honestly think it would be stopped if it took a ful day to scribe a scroll) this because they can scribe it into their own spellbook. So let me ask again. IS the scribe scroll feat USEFUL for anyone but a wizard?

                              - Regards.

Not unless you like scribing 'Raise Dead', 'Heal', and 'Ressurection.' And, seeing as you seem to care about the feat's inherant value to yourself/your character only, I doubt that's the case. In addition, a druid type caster might enjoy having a few extra high-tier world-destroying spell on hand for when they run out (or for utility purposes), but otherwise you can just deal with the twenty minute rest timer and/or get your spells back after you die.

So, to answer your question and effectively end this topic, no.
