You could always use a scripted item rather than renaming spells. Holy salved bandages or something. I don't know; I'm not very creative. Just throwing it out there. Either way, we need to keep the spells for the odd case where someone actually wants to RP being dead or in the case of events.

I know! There's almost zero content for Alice to solo. Devs keep telling me they can't program a sentient roleplaying AI. Pfft. It's just 1's and 0's, how hard can it be?

I suppose I could code a sentient RP AI.

I don't know as id go as far as renaming the spell. No one even uses the spells, so there's very little point in that, anyway if I do some day get a chance to use raise dead, id just RP it as a powerful healing spell that can revive someone from a coma. The more appropriate change is have the relivent NPC clerics convorsation reflect it. Instead of "Lay him down and I shall call upon Selune to breath life back into his dead corpse" you could have him say: "Yes, its a terrible wound, but fear not we can help him, he just needs proper care and rest."

For all the new players who "didn't get the memo" as Revkov said, this would go a long way to helping people understand that we aren't RPing death.

Granted you could still RP death much in the same way you RP criticle wounds now. Maybe even that might tempt someone into finding a PC cleric to RP the raising with?

I think I mentioned in another thread that you could make the spells more useful if the cost was more reasonable. Granted 5k is keeping with PnP, and I'm usually against deviating too far, but the cost only makes sense if dead is dead. Also substitute the diamond for a flat spell cost, same as stoneskin and other powerful spells.

I have actually used raise dead several times. I usually RP the casting for the spell when I do it. It is expensive but worth it at times for the RP it can bring.

Ive seen you cast it too, but I think you're the only person ive ever seen cast it. My Level 19 cleric has never cast it. Ive never even seen the components needed to cast it. Michael donated some diamond dust because he didn't really know what material components were needed, like many, I think.

So I suppose I should say it is "rarley" used. Not "never" used. Its just not really in demand at all, and no wonder. Even when the glitch is fixed, 800gp beats 5000gp. I "hear" that people really want to shell out the cash for that vitality loss, ive just never seen it. Everyone I run around with would rather run over to Selune's temple for a quick raise than pony up 5k to RP out the situation. Ive even been with groups where we OOC ran over to the temple, then ran back and RPed waiting for the person to "wake up" on the ground where they dropped.

If it was just straight 5000 gold instead of an actual diamond, id cast it no problem, and could even guilt my team-mates into coughing up the cash I bet. But no one ever has a diamond. Perhaps if the diamonds were either more accessable, or it just took 5k gp from your inventory, it might get a bit more action over running people to the NPC cleric?

I think you might be recalling the wrong system, when fixed, temple-aid will take significantly more than 800 GP, and often more than 5000 GP.

The diamonds as a casting requirement were implimented after the Vitality system was upgraded. Before, the caster needed blood-stones, and plenty of people were aware of such and if they intented to raise-dead made certain to have them. Once the system was upgraded, it was changed to straight cash, suddenly grabbing oodles of cash from said healers who were expecting them to be deducted from the supply of blood-stones. To ensure people understood the costs of the spell, it was changed back to requiring reagents:

Seriously? 8000k for a 17+ revive? An order of magnitude increase when the person isn't dead. Granted for Alice this would be bumped down to 1950 based on the modifiers (assuming an NPC kill and Abby for the rez), but then that makes raise dead and resurrect cost more than a temple raise again. Oh, and non-healing domain clerics get vitality damage.

                      Also, here's a problem:
...now available in some faction stores. There are future plans to include them in high level loot tables as well.
So non-faction clerics get left out in the cold or else begging other clerics for diamonds?

Finally, has anyone ever used resurrection? Double the cost, only 10 extra vitality points restored.

EDIT: I suppose if you wanted to fix the inflated economy though, extremely high death costs would do it.

On the Raise Dead price debate, I'm of the mind it should be better in every way raising someone yourself than doing so at a temple, costing slightly less gold and restoring more vitality. Otherwise what is special about having this ability at all?! Unless someone died halfway through a dungeon before the final boss I suppose, but that happens quite rarely.

As a sidenote I was not suggesting changing the current death rules at all really, just extending and fortifying the bleeding out rules a bit so that healing magics become more useful, and if at least 1 or 2 party members survive they might be able to save the others.

Though it seems most are opposed to this, and I suppose with good reason. The current death system is very well thought out.

I believe the player community – of which I am one – has to be careful when making suggestions to the staff about changing this system, that spell, or some feat, etc.

The current vitality system is a byproduct of much debate about death a while back. A few years ago, if you died you ran the risk of losing XP, Money, and a precious piece of equipment. Therefore, most senior players had their companions carry their bodies back to the Temple of Helm and purchased 2 x Bloodstones (2.5K each) to execute the raise.

Now? “Don’t worry Mate, I will respawn.” Death is not as foreboding now as it once was. In my opinion, the vitality system is great. It penalizes anyone who allows their vitality to dip into the “unhealthy” range. I like this. But that is the extent of the danger. I have never encountered anyone (general statement since I have not done any real research) that had a need for a full resurrection under the current system as that would mean the person ran through all of their vitality.

We are all getting over at the moment because temple raises cost a mere 800 gold. The projected cost for a temple raise (5K) are spot on in my opinion. I would rather pay back a party member for the 5K diamond needed to execute a temple raise then risk losing my customized weapon. I know this is not a current concern, but it was before the current system existed.

Custom Weapon = Enchantment Cost + Fatigue Cost + Weapon Cost + Essence(s) Cost + Gem Cost.

                            Cheers!
                            Cheers!

It could be much worse. In ALFA servers, we had a one death rule. When you died you fell in place, and your corpse had all your inventory, meaning someone could steal everything you had if you happened on them. Raise dead was reserved for clerics/priest types only. No NPC raises, no respawn.

                              Talk about harsh.

Still, I think the system we have here is balanced. The only suggestion I would make, is make raises only avail through PCs, and maybe one NPC priestfor factions who don't generally have priests, but over all, I am super happy with the system we have. It's very fluid for whatever kind of RP you want to do. You die in a group, you kind of know someone will haul you for aid.... you die alone soloing... it's a risk of the job.

I believe that the partial intent here is to make faction-conflict a significantly greater tactical and strategic concern: If the other bloke can whack you for 30-40 vitality damage at a time, you can't afford even two losses before becoming a risk to your team. Raise and Resurrection vitality costs allows back-line players to aid and mitigate the offensive characters by taking some of that strain onto themselves to keep the heavy-hitters in the fight more often. Similarly, you know you CAN take a certain player out of the fight for a while (if not forever), if he happens to lose two or three times, thereby preventing rampant respawn-fighting to the same degree as has occasionally been seen.
