I think faction leaders need to be given more power to add rep/ promote. The "get it from a DM event" model is idealistic at best.

Perhaps PC faction leaders could be allowed to send rep reward suggestions to DM's. this way it would still be monitored/controlled. Not just buddies pimpin' their buddies.

I'm kind of in this boat, lol. My old server had a long tradition of never bothering DMs. But in the end, faction points don't tend to actually hold any meaning when it comes to what matters. PCs form relationships and decide whom they trust organically, not based on invisible points.

Very true which is why I prefer requests that involve a group of player characters, not just requests for yourself. Requesting events is also great for us DMs who are in a rut on thinking of things to do. It can be as basic as, 'Hi, I'm in blackwood and me and my homies want to go on a bandit hunt.' Also, don't worry about bothering us staffers. We all volunteered to be on the staff to help out the community.
