  • Item Ideas

I have a pure melee character, and was thinking about a few minor things that would help such a PC.

Healing belt (In the Magic Item Compendium) Heal 2d8 3/day, or 3d8 2/day, or 4d8 1day: I am sure that a belt that does Cure Mod 3/day would sufice

An item that can maybe cast the various vigors x/day

Something a little greater, an Item that allows for displacement, blur, or any other defensive spell x/day

This would help most classes but since we have had a great increase of melee types, this sorts of items would help.

That is it for my ideas.

Except for my purely biased stance: Only BH should get these! (Joking)

I respectfully disagree. To give items like these out would allow the melee classes to become too independant. If you want those kinds of things for your fighter, then it is best that you make friends with a healer and/or wizard to provide you those benefits.

I understand your attempt to be diplomatic; but your suggestion is that a melee PC should have to rely on a caster to survive. Why would I ask my caster friends to waist resources on me? As someone who also has played a ton of casters, why should I have to waist my spell alotment on someone else; this is even more exemplified by the fact that if I am playing or with an evil PC, why waist a key healing spell when it may be the one that saves the casters hide.

It would not make melee classes any more independant than a caster; it would infact help with longer adventures, giving more resources in between rests. None of these items would make any one melee anymore out of balance.

As for potions, while they are great and often used; unless you are a lucky one and have the ability to get into the city, the selection is very limited. Potions also give attacks of opportunity, and a major draw back in combat situations.

It costs a little bit, but I think this is the best answer.

Bulls Strength, Barkskin, etc. I do not personally have a mundane character at any high level... but, I see several characters do very well as pure fighters with just potion buffs. Admit-ably, I don't know what their equipment looks like.

That said, I don't think it would be bad to give mundane characters more options.

I think introducing a better selection of belts in game is a great idea regardless. The crafting system does not have a large selection of belt recipes and the ones available in game do not have the variety of characteristics that other item slots do.

            Cheers!

I hate this and would support any kind of change that would counteract this. What if you're just happy rolling with that one creepy ranger guy, two fighters (none which use a shield), and a pickpocket who hasn't bothered to pick a lock or disable a trap, as your best group of buds for the reasons of... not tactical superiority... but roleplaying of all things?

Quick edit: Notably, if you're not part of Lawful faction A, Lawful faction B, Chaotic theocratic rule C, Capitalist faction D, or Faction 'The first rule of Fight Club' E, there is very little access to gear worth the amount of coin you happen to get for the over-nine-thousand monsters you happen to kill during a trip to a dungeon, regardless of belts, rings, or sublty-revealing-swimming-gear selection options aside.

Honestly I don't think fighters need much of a boost now, but if they feel they need use/day items then I say give them.

Items of any kind would be great. At the moment the items selections are still pretty slim.

Basically, I'm all for greater variety and customisation, and I don't think a 2nd or 3rd level spell once or twice per day with a low caster level would be overpowered...it would also be a nice money sink as I imagine they would be quite pricey.

If such items were to be introduced they'd be much better as charge/use rather than daily.

This works to Doubt. The point is these are small Items that do not drastically throw off any type of balance.

I am currently in the process of redoing faction store completely, and am working on a new magical items store. Although this thread has remained mostly civil there has been some sniping and I'm keeping a close eye on the thread.

Anyone with specific ideas for items should feel free to post them. Names and (spell checked, grammatically correct) descriptions would lighten my workload. Even if the item doesn't go in with the properties you reccomended, if the name and description is well done, it will likely go in in some form.

There will be no X/day items, except in extremely rare, exceptional cases. Store bought items will now use charges in almost every case.

Please don't address anyone else's posts except in a constructive manner.

I don't think there should be such an item available for fighters. Today the fighter is way too powerful especially in comparison to weapon master or stalwart defender. If I make a fighter focused on two weapons fighting I have many attacks per round, if she's a dwarf I get DR +4 with those feats and later plus another +5. If I will keep the pure fighter with the dexterity bonus I get even some bonus to AC like the stalwart defender, I get bonus for the weapons for the attack like the weapon master and at level 20 I get even the WP's critical, not counting skill points. I do not see as wise to add items with spells for mundane classes. Today it's hard for spellcasters to run about with the resting only once per 24 hours and rest zones removed ... that actually makes me absolutely selfish about my spells and I won't waste them on others . I can't even afford use the healing spells for myself and have to rely on potions because of the limited duration of those spells. In the end there's many potions available for noncaster classes. Enough that fighter changes made weapon master and defender a very poor decision in character building, because what you won't get for granted feats, you can choose with fighter's bonus feats.

                          EDIT:

In the end what I wanted to say is ... you want to cast spells ... become sorceress, you want to run about with your sword looking dangerous ... make a fighter.

Sile - impoverished free merchant, looking for her own happiness

Well, at least this will act as a gold sink. It still kind of feels wrong to me to allow members of one class to buy the special abilities of another class, but so be it. I only hope the items that give these abilities will be limited such that they don't make the caster classes obsolete.

Sweet! Now I know why you're always so busy heheh, ok here's one I've wanted to see for a while.

                              Stone of Calling
First created by the Elves of Myth Drannor, this Beljuril seems to glimmer faintly with its own inner light when held by its possessor. These powerful stones can be keyed to a certain individual, usually an ally, and can teleport them to the possessor of the stone at times of great need (or just for a drink at the Tav).

Game Stats: When targeted to an individual, it sets that player as the "ally", then whenever the summoning power is used, that character will be teleported to the vicinity of the owner of the stone. Charges: 50 (10 charges per use); Cost: 20,000+

((i would love to see this instead of the *runs 100km in 1 minute to arrive and join the fight*))
