  • The Trial of Kemnebi Shadeweaver

    * Several weeks after the death of Tifton Holyguard, renowned Paladin of Helm, and the arrest of Kemnebi Shadeweaver, a trial is held. Those with a reason to be there are permitted to attend. The court room is filled with friends of the deceased, including members of the churches of Helm and Torm. Balthasar, Abbot Orlan, and many others are in attendance. The Honorable Judge Horace Nemits presides. Judge Nemits is rumored to be a fair man, but one who does not tolerate ineptitude or disruption in his court.

The bailiff addresses the court: "Ladies and gentlemen, Honorable Judge Horace Nemits presiding." Judge Horace Nemits takes his seat, bangs his gavel, and looks to the crowd. *

You may be seated. Today we begin the trial of Kemnebi Shadeweaver, hereafter known as the Defendant, who is being charged with egregious behavior within a city temple, premeditated murder of a city officer, and endangering the peace. Before we begin, let me make it clear that we will have an ordered and civilized trial. There will be no outbursts, and we will handle ourselves respectably. Anyone who does not comply will be removed, forcefully if necessary. It is the prosecution's burden to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the Defendant is guilty of the aforementioned crimes.

The Prosecution is represented by a Mister Jonas Londew, and will be assisted by Cadmus Runesmith. At this time, the Defendant's council will identify themselves, and plead guilty or not guilty.

(( Kemnebi's player will now introduce their lawyer. He can choose to represent himself, have another DM be a lawyer for them, or rely on another PC to be their lawyer. ))

    (( Ground rules:
    - No OOC comments of any kind. If you have questions, please PM them to me or another DM.
    - This has serious repercussions for a number of PCs; please treat it with the respect it deserves.
    - PCs who are not on the witness stand or part of the trial can emote reactions or make outbursts, but be prepared for consequences.
    - PCs who are removed from the court cannot post additional messages.
    ))

*Elric hears of the trial and is stunned with this bit of information*

"I was going to convene a meeting of the Arcanus Liberus to find six mages to help fix the problem that Tifton Holyguard had from the crystals. Now I find out that Kemnebi is being charged with his murder?"

    *Elric ponders*

"I must find out what happened. I have fought side-by-side with Kemnebi and find it hard that he would commit murder. There must have been a reason behind this act. I will search out Cadmus and find out what happened."

      * Before the Defendant's attorney is able to introduce himself, the large, intricately carved oak courtroom doors of the Sundren City courtroom slam open and permit a helmed, titanic figure wearing a well-used suit of deep blue armor that has seen more than its fair share of epic battle.

Those on hand swing their heads to see who would interrupt the proceedings with such an entrance, and marvel as the man is required to lower his head in order to make it through the hall doors. Judge Nemits is not so easily impressed, and bangs his gavel with authority. *

      Order!

      * The helmed and armored figure moves with the grace of a thousand stealthy men, but does so with the force of a bull. He has the audacity to move to the front, taking a seat beside Balthasar and Abbot Orlan, rather than taking an inconspicuous location in the back. The eyes behind the helm look to each holy man as if he knows them well. The courtroom bench creaks loudly as it tries to hold the massive man. Slowly, the figure removes his helm to reveal long golden locks of brilliant yellow hair. The eyes are blue, and reveal a determinedness, anger, and presence that are palpable.

      The judge speaks: *

And who are you, sir, that would presume to interrupt this court?

      * A deep, composed, and deadly serious voice emanates from the figure, speaking the very first and last time during the trial. *

I am Tyton Holyguard, brother of Tifton, Grand Defender of the Vigilant One, and I have come for justice.

      * Whispers fill the courtroom, and it's clear to everyone that Tyton is indeed the brother of the deceased. The resemblance is clear; the elder brother wears the same eyes, face, hair, and unflinching sense of duty as his younger brother. But there the similarities end. Tyton is massive while Tifton was lean; Tyton speaks from hard experience while Tifton spoke from his heart.

The judge slams his gavel again with the effect of silencing the court. He looks to the Defendant to begin his introduction. Yet, all other eyes are on Tyton as he turns his unreadable expression to the Defendant and peers into him with scrutinizing eyes. *

*Chrinne also enters the courtroom, but does so in a polite manner unlike Tyton. She takes a seat at the back of the room. Moments later, a chill settles throughout the room.*

Dordleton moves into the room, a bit dirty with a smell about him that immediately makes it clear that he has just come in from a long days work. He sits in the back next to Sin'Dolin and grins sheepishly before settling down to watch the proceedings.

Alyrian enters and finds himself an inconspicious corner in the back, with which to watch the proceedings. He holds one hand behind his back, palm opening and closing; each time it does so, a venom-green ball of energy ignites and is immediately put out.

"Let us see the effectiveness of the courts."

Elric enters the courtroom with a flourish. He smiles at everyone as he walks up the aisle, choosing a seat as close to the front as possible.

Elric winks at Kemnebi and then sits and prepares to listen and write everything down on a piece of parchment he pulls from his left boot.

Cadmus enters the room staring intently at Kemnebi as he takes a seat next to the prosecutor Mr. Londew. Briefly he looks over to Tyton, noticing the incredible resemblance to his deceasd brother.
With eyes of sadness and regret he slowly nods to the large man, deep purpose and commitment apparent on his countenance.

Crossing his arms over his lap he patiently awaits the defendants opening statement.

Orrick Fole quietly enters the room choosing to lean against the back wall, not far from the door, so as to see over the heads of those sitting in the rows before him. He pulls his hat down a bit, produces a large tome and quill from his bag, and prepares to take notes during the proceedings.
