I vote yes. You're dead. Stay that way a little while. As it is, one of the flaws in Sundren's RP is that no one is truly worried about death. Yes it shows in character, but the danger is so far from real that you cannot say it effects the gameplay environment.

There was another RP server that I tried before I landed here where you respawned *right where you died.* I found this to be annoying at best. People would hurl themselves into a pack of bugbears and just respawn their way to victory.

A bit of an extreme example, I know. But the value of death still small. Why not through another deterrent in there?
    Perigo Teal, Rogue Assassin.
Genji, The happy go lucky Gnome.
Giladel of the house of Ravencrest.

IT GOES 40 MINUTES, but not seconds. Draw off by the pillar of fail!

I'm all for Death-timer, makes you value the living time more and scares more people from dying.
I have a +1 question brewing in this skull somewhere...

How does this work exactly? I hope it's not the screen going completely black or something. Heavy death penalties are not the end of the world just the players will get bored and probably want to chat with friends oocly (given they know how to manually type a tell.)

I agree that a greater XP penalty should be in place, and maybe 3 minutes is a bit short, but no gold loss, whatsoever.

Also, this will need to be proofed somehow so that people can't log out and log back in to get around it, but i'm sure you guys have thought of that.
Heh, i guess my characters are deleted, now. Updating char list soon!

Don't put alot of effort stopping people from trying to cheat death, since we all know that they will have alot of feet in their arses if they get caught, and most prolly suffer perma-death ^^

They added the pass to prevent PG's to enter, and I'd state that no true RPers tries to cheat death ^^
Just add the 3 min wait and we'll all be happy

              ...

I voted yes. It may be fun to create a 'spirit area' where everyone who has died goes for three minutes. There can be fun Rp situations where DM's hang there and play 'Gods' and players have to beg to return to the world they knew. It would be funny to find a follower of Tempus confronted by Tempus, and forced to explain why the died retreating from battle. Helm confronting a Paladin asking why he or she were slaying needless goblins, not in protection, but in revenge etc. I would hope that characters were always allowed to return, but at the same time, it would be fun and interesting.

Truly, my favored style is HCR. But considering how buggy NWN2 is at the moment I don't even know if can be implemented correctly. Three minutes is nothing, I can remember waiting an hour or so to be raised when it was either that or roll a new character. Just to clarify, I am not in favor of Sundren becoming HCR, I'm just stating what style of play I tend to enjoy.

Haven't played here yet, but I voted yes - If three minutes is too long for some people to wait, they should be more careful when fighting, armor, buffs and AC is there for a reason.

Deth'amaendul Amastacia - Halberd weilding sun elven, sun elf hating warrior.

Not everyone is the ultimate slayer of doom. There are foes you cannot beat, at least yet.

Except with the speed of creatures, there is no such thing as "retreat".
                      Don't run...you'll only die tired.

I would think goblins would give up chase after a bit, but not gnolls.

Voted yes, because firstly: it'll give more use for a character playing a cleric and actually picking Raise dead and resurrect spells. Secondly, I don't like to just insta-disappear. Like the battle where I died when Kai, Kalya and Alathra was fighting gnolls in numbers, I liked watching how the battle went afterwards, and when Kai roleplayed Dragging my corpse away.
It's very rewarding for me to see the characters you fight with actually caring, and trying to get you back afterwards.

                          So.. yeh!

Ah, good ol morale checks from ye olde DnD...

ALFA used to have scripts that if PCs were way more uber than the monsters, the mosters would roll morale checks and run away in fear if they failed. Very satisfying to watch CR<1 kobolds and goblins run from a mid level party. Would make farming low lvl spawns for loot a PITA too, which is a good thing.
PC - Corwin Eska'las (Sun Elf pursuing the dream of becoming a Bladesinger)

Alt PC - Brevin Smoothands (meticulously groomed half orc bard swashbuckler... sort of... sings great, less fighting)

That would be Jasperre's AI. http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view...Detail&id=2108
And yes, it was a great thing. It was also fully customizable. So some baddies could be fearless. Also, the spellcasters actually knew how to queue up spells correctly.

Jasperre's system was inspired. I often could not tell if the monsters were being controlled by DMs or the AI, they were so good.
