In PnP, there are certain skills that can be used without ranks, while others require them. Swimming for instance can be done by anyone, though ranks give certain advantages.

Yah that seems a little odd ... bards are sort of the "knowledge class" it's really all they are they follow adventure groups around, learn things, study lots, and pass on stories.
Seems odd that they don't have all the knowledge skills as class skills. Course since NONE of the new skills are class skills for the bard it could just be an oversight or bug of some kind.
