a good thread, i have an example of a dm interaction i believe fits this.
i was playing my druid orlin and had posted several stories on the forums about dreams/nightmares he was having. i needed "guardian of the grove" to continue my characters path.
dm/ i would like to ask the keeper about the dreams i've been having. can anyone help?
the dm came shortly after and i had a great convo with the keeper, completely IC, about orlin's thought's and feelings. How he felt compelled to seek this grove and now that he found it, protect it. in the end it lead to a new mission and a feat allowing me to proceed down my path.
i went in with the GOAL of gaining the "guardian of the grove" feat.
The Munchkin Method: asking for the feat or a quest for the feat.
The Machiavellian Method: ask to rp with the keeper about my dreams and how i should proceed.
i used the mach method and it definitely worked for me. i think the dm enjoyed it as well.
