Yeah the starting XP decision was based on a few things. One of which was giving characters weapon finesse off the bat by giving them a few levels. Also, we really had no desire to waste any time trying to make areas to fight stupid things like rats just to get over those first few hurdles. It just seemed rather pointless. The starting XP is also a boon to mages who are handicapped at first level with 6hp.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

And for that I thank you. As it is Westandris is pretty much a paper doll at level 4.

I still miss the struggles of life starting as a lvl 1 though; it still feels a bit strange the last two PWs I've played in that I got to mid level so fast...

Starting at lvl 1, the feeling of finally getting that 1000 xp without dying is... priceless... then you get to lvl 4 and get the first ability boost and 3 to 4 times the HP you started with... it's nigh orgasmic. You go back and find those kobolds and goblins that gave you such a whupping way back when, and it's time for some PAYBACK as you evicerate them mercilessly!
PC - Corwin Eska'las (Sun Elf pursuing the dream of becoming a Bladesinger)

Alt PC - Brevin Smoothands (meticulously groomed half orc bard swashbuckler... sort of... sings great, less fighting)

I like level 3. I have to party if it's time for violence. Yeah I die a lot and my XP gain is poor, but then sooner or later I'm bound to run into a DM event. Ultimately I'm in it for the RP, not the XP, and whilst my abilities grow very slowly I'm having too much fun developing the character's background and personality to really be bothered about it.

Well, let's just chalk it down to a matter of taste then.

I like the draenei and troll women more nowadays, anyway.

I hate blood elves. All blood elves should die. Painfully.

                      ...
