It might be because of level restrictions, or other reasons. And I'd like to encourage everyone to remember that every single system ever put into Sundren, the things that make Sundren so unique and enjoyable, form custom spells, to custom classes, to custom crafting. All of it had it's bumps. This isn't any different, and to those of us who have been here awhile and seen how hard that the Dev and DM team work, all and any problems with this new system will be fixed in short time. Just be patient people. Roll with it, I if you need a reason for your veteran character to suddenly not know the way to Schild ( like Kathryn can't because she's not high enough level ), there isnow open war in Sundren, the first pitched battle was done last night ( very cool if you weren't there, read about it in the post by Lollercide ) and naturally traveling through Sundren has become much more difficult and dangerous. I know that I'll have to find some way to get back to Aquor eventually, as I took the quest from the Thayan wizard mentioned by Sean (sharringtonm) before the new map points were introduced, and never finished it. I'll find some way and reason that this is the case. Just consider that there are no safe roads in Sundren anymore, that the paths you knew before are now too dangerous, and secret ways to get there must now be discovered. When things happen that change your character's status, such as this, it's up to you to find an RP reason for it, not the Staff's jobs to RP your character for you. I think you'll find that if you learn to have a flexible character ( Hano Fetten is a great Paladin, but also very flexible with his RP for example ), not only will you avoid feeling frustrated by changes to the world, your character will be that much more interesting ( I challenge anyone to tell me that Kathryn isn't interesting, she's alot of things but boring isn't one of them... Sorry I had to finish with a shameless self kudos )

Nah, I'm just being a something-or-other. I didn't even read it all.
But more seriously, shouldn't the Gate of the Sunderer be open from the start? I'm sure some people like to RP that they came from the mainland, rather than by boat, despite the opening cutscene. And it isn't as though there are really badass enemies there that people need to be protected from.Pyras: Red Wizard of Thay, High Arcanist of Illusion, Master of the Enclave's Knight Commander.

Trying to think of a reason to explain changes to a world that happened through the godhand of developers and not by actual RP plot or storyline is just silly.
Think of an RP reason why my Druid cant find a FOREST.

I'm going to try to offer some suggestions, and please don't take these as
"I have to do more work to get access to new areas when I'm an existing player" (so I'm complaining) I'll try to explain these points as best I can.
The present amount of time it takes to locate these quest givers is somewhat disheartening, and like others I had to log off out of frustration of 2.5hrs of limited success. Thank you Sharingtom soooo much for that list, I still had to do some searching, but it cut down the time soo significantly. I still can't get the hills,(prolly need dm help cause questers wont talk to me))
I would add as one other already has suggested that from a RP perspective not all the players are going to have characters that want to interact with NPCs, so from a rp perspective I can understand that to be an issue.
Some newcomers want to get in and Play. I know if my first impression of sundren is I log on, and can find an exit out of the port, but can't go anywhere.. then I wander around trying to locate either another way out, or someone to tell me how to get out. I would have a negative view going into it. I would take the sugestion to move the hills quest giver to either right at the entrance to new players, or very close and Prominent. The camera is unwieldy enough without having to try to traipse behind buildings and find a dwarf. The same can be said of Foulbreath, tho apparently u don't have to use him to get the exigo added if u can manage to find fiddlesworth > sgt..
One logical thing for me is why can't you ask prominent city members about the location of the cities surounding sundren, such as sestra, or aquor I would think any well established citizen would be aware of these places, and be able to offer hearsay on them along with a general direction or to tell you who to go to.
Going with a group: This one was a trouble this morning.. 2 of us wanted to go to the necropolis, we had another join us, and he didnt know where it was, so we had to help him do the quests before he could "Follow us" to the necropolis. Is there any way we could have members of our group mark places on the map for us? or while they're in the group give them vision of the location on the map? Atleast that way, one of them is of level to be there, and if they don't have an appropriate,.. Int roll then they don't keep the location on the map? heck i dunno. just throwing ideas..
Thanks all, and I appreciate the work, don't view this as a list of complaints, hopefully it will aid in the development of the system."Who needs a plan when you've got an Axe!"

I already mentioned that in the future there will be the ability to share map points. The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

Also, the server's in BETA, meaning new stuff is going to get added and it might occasionally mess with a given player's world. Really not a big deal. Having to find npc's and remap areas has been a minor inconvenience at most.
As a longtime player here, I can remember when map-traveling to a locale often meant taking a leap of faith in reference to the difficulty of the enemies there. I'd take a break for a few months and go to stomp through a zone I remembered all too well only to find CR: Impossible Soul Destroying Tentacle Monsters of Agonizing and Inevitable Doom there to help me find my way back to the Forest of Eternal Night.
This new system progresses new pc's along a stabler learning curve and provides ample opportunities to earn easy experience points to make attaining the first couple levels safer and easier while educating the PC about the various factions within and geography of Sundren.Mirumoto Akagi: What is dance?
Dalon Arogard: It's this. *busts a move*
Llew Hy: A strange compulsion...
Mirumoto Akagi: I suppose you can dance if you like, but you're leaving our friends behind, and they're not dancing.
Dalon Arogard: Then they're no friends of mine.

One more dissenting post and I'm deleteing this whole thread. You all have now been warned.
Now....
Durin, I appreciate you ideas, but most of them were covered in the posts before yours.
I will discuss the two points you had that were covered yet:
One logical thing for me is why can't you ask prominent city members about the location of the cities surounding sundren, such as sestra, or aquor I would think any well established citizen would be aware of these places, and be able to offer hearsay on them along with a general direction or to tell you who to go to.
Leaving it to me to do alone. And I'll be frank. I hate writing conversations. It's right there with getting my teeth drilled. I'm a scripter, not an author.
Some newcomers want to get in and Play.
And before you say "I meant they want to RP with others", I have yet to see more then 10 minutes go by without someone in Port Avanthyr, so its no for lack of people being around.
Everything else you pointed out was either discussed already in this thread or there was a "Not gonna change" stamp put on it.
And on another note I want everyone to sit back and think about the first time they played the OC in nwn1 or nwn2.
Howe much fun would it have been to you if you had access to every area and found and completed every quest in the game in 2 hours? I would have returned the game. I would have called it a piece of crap.
Too many people are complaining it takes them too long to find all the secrets. Its utterly rediculous. Its supposed to take a long time.
I'm getting tells from people at level 3 that can't access the Necropolis. DUH.
I swear to god the following happened to me yesterday afternoon.
I'm on as a DEV and a unnamed player is complaining because he can't access the forest on his map. He swears up and down he's spoken to every single NPC in the game.
I port over to him, and hes standing at the campfire at exigo. He's level 7. I ask him one more time, "are you sure you've spoken to everyone". He (or she? who can tell?) is 100% sure. Then I ask them to go over and talk to the closest NPC to where they are standing. VANI. He goes over and magically he can get to the forest. I left without another word.
Is it really all that much fun to you when the DM has to tell you who to go talk to? Do you really need a Walkthru manual for a multiplayer server to have fun?
Cause the overwhelming majority of angry and pissed of tells that I get in game as botha PC and a Developer say Yes.
Oh.. NO MORE TELLS TO ME AS A PC unless your wanting to RP with me, or your one of my inner circle of friends. Thats what the HELP request forum is for.

Well after going through and finding a couple areas with Serena, I noticed I didn't get any XP for going to the newly unlocked areas (Sestra and Shaharan hills that I tested). In fact the only XP I got was when I logged into the druid grove and apparently unlocked it at that point.
I logged on with Catalina inside Sundren city and found out that she had no map points at all, aside from Arvanthyr (Serena had quite a few, probably due to the quests she did already). I got XP for discovering the various districts of Sundren City, and later the druid grove after running through the Viridale. But I got no XP for going to the Viridale border post or Sestra. I'm guessing the XP only comes for unlocking areas through direct transitions, not from unlocked map pins then moving to that location. Whether its intended or not, thats how it seems to be working right now.
