Hm... well, that at least is not how it works in PnP. For a Svirfneblin to get to character level 2 it would take the experience for a level 5 character. This means 10k (ECL 5 Svirfneblin is +3 LA +2 character level). And this would mean having to gain 7k of XP to get to the 2nd level.

Playing one would not really be a feasible option as the little amount of XP would eventually 'kill' the character...

I've never been entirely comfortable dealing with ECL adjustments. When dealing with them in PnP, I have them pay off an XP debt based on their adjustment. Much simpler than adjusting the leveling table.

There's a system to 'buy off' LA in the SRD (from the book Unearthed Arcana) which is quite good and balanced (most LAs are quite powerful to start with but get quite 'weak' in the higher levels).

Even though I perfectly agree that handling it in an easier way in PnP makes sense, I still don't get how it really is handled here - or rather, in NWN2.

After a bit of testing, yes- you are right.

Tieflings start at level 2.
Drow require 3k more for level 2.
Svirnebli require 7k more for level 2.

PnP Parallel, I guess. I should have just booted up my module instead of messing with numbers in the first place.

0 - Humans
1,000 - Tieflings (+1), Level 2
3,000 - Drow (+2), Level 3
6,000 - Svirneblin (+3), Level 4
10,000 - Level 5

Tieflings would go to level 2.
Drow would go half-way to level 2.
And Svirneblin would be 7,000 under level 2.

Heh... as I should have, Kaldaris...

The only excuse I have is that my NWN2 game crashes my computer several times on every start-up before it finally works.

But I checked it myself and 10k XP is the next level for a svirfneblin character.

It will/can be quite a challenge to play one then. Relying on Stealth and high AC could work, though.
