I think people often impose their own real life morals in the fantasy world a bit too much. Although I haven't seen much to prove otherwise, it is my hope that Sundren will allow conflict through RP to brew. Issues such as racism, greed, robbery, and outright rudeness are things that should be allowed to transpire without fear of being labeled as a "trouble player" or banned as long is it takes place in an IC context. I know this is a touchy topic for some people, what do you think?

Yep. In truth undeadsteak, your character is one of the primary reasons we instituted it. As I said, vigilante work is against the laws of the land are even after I had city militia warn your character IC over and over and over... even tried to make your character part of the militia so it'd at least be legal, you kept ignoring the NPC presence in the city that does not take kindly to random citizens cutting down people and shooting arrows even at legs.
Others are culprits too who were more acting on "I'm new to RP servers and I don't mean to RP".
So instead of leaving the burden to take the world around players into account, we placed a no pvp rule in towns. And I'd hope a druid has enough sense to realize a wolf running around town is a bad thing <_< >_>

I do plan to implement a subdual attack mode so players can beat someone down to 1 hp without killing them. Maybe after that is in we can allow PVP in towns again. This also was to stop pick pocketting since people obviously aren't trying to hide their insane thieving spree.

Morals when in character? Well, I play a drow...
and, in RL, my morals are VERY, VERY, VERY high. Some of even my closest friends think I'm strange. I don't: curse, call people names, hit people (I'm not violent), I don't smoke, drink, sex, ---and whatever else may be bad.
I DO: give abundantly, bless, serve people, encourage..etc.
So, as you can see, my character (drow) and myself in RL are..well, completely different. This is a problem, eh?
I found a solution: My character is quiet, most of the time

This issue persists no matter where you go with online RP environment, least with Neverwinter Nights. People integrate a part of themselves, however remote, into their characters. Though I agree it can feel unimmersive when the evilest of drow, for example, are treated like best buddies right off the bat (occured often on prior servers I was on). It can be a tricky thing to do since there are some who take hostilities to the extreme where it is not fun anymore. I think a more "PG-13" form of hostilities could be more suiting while keeping the believability in place.

Eilistraee does exist, and you can hate the concept of good drow all you want, but the fact is that it is as much a part of the Forgotten Realms as anything else.
On topic, though, its really up to every player what their character's morals are. Maybe they have modern morals, or maybe it just seems that way. Spending a few minutes with someone IC doesn't tell you anything about what drives the character, nor why they have their morals as they do. And certainly not if they are deliberately being deceptive about their morals.
To use an example, why would a human who comes from a small town in a country that has not been attacked by drow in a millenium have any significant prejudice against them? There is nothing to reinforce any hatred of drow if the drow haven't done anything to the people in that land for generations. And this would be pushed further if there were even Eilistraeens in the country who would turn the public opinion of drow completely the other way.
So it would make sense that this person would defend a drow who they have seen do nothing at all to deserve someone elses prejudices or hate.

In theory, you'd see good drow more often than bad drow on the surface. In practice... you do. I admit they're abundant, but who can complain with tieflings and so on running around?
Also, Undeadsteak, as Dan I usually have to deal with 2-3 things at once, meaning I'm basically trying to run three ways at once. Try it in real life.
Though I will admit Dan has enlisted Syl's help whenever the town was having too much of a crime spree.

That's what it comes down to. People don't just slice people's lives away cuz of stories if they're balanced mentally. I imagine the first drow to walk into a city of Sundren people will lightly whisper to the nearest person...Originally posted by Dark presence View PostTo use an example, why would a human who comes from a small town in a country that has not been attacked by drow in a millenium have any significant prejudice against them? "Is that one of those Drow I heard about? Aren't they blood thirsty? What should we do!?"
"Well, it's just one... let's see what happens."
The guards will likely stop them, see what's up. I doubt they'll just cut them up. Balanced people don't -want- to slice up people. They want peace, they want no problem. They don't want to see Drow intestines and go to sleep at night wondering if they really did just kill a person who meant them no harm.
Many players play unbalanced people however. "What do you mean I'm an idiot?!?! *Kill Kill*"
I remember the movie Fight Club when people were supposed to try to start random fights on the street. Nobody wanted to fight them back. They try to ignore it, act like it didn't happen. Outright fighting is beyond most people's comfort zones, even soldiers don't grab their AK's they use in wars and shoot people because they suspect them of crimes.
Granted Sundren is fantasy world and likely more aggressive for the sake of enjoyment of struggle, but l like to think most tension between races in Sundren would be resolves without dead people at every turn from the NPCs. PCs are going to RP how they see fit.
