Does Sundren use custom character portraits? I heard using these 2D portraits significantly reduce lag.

    This was discussed here

Again, no one will ever be under any obligation to download them.

I thought the portraits you could choose from in NWN1 were quite cool (well, the sorcerer one was, anyway). Considering that the selection in NWN1 wasn't too large - hell, NWN1 servers could handle them - perhaps they could be used as a compromise, if a way to use them in NWN2 could be found?

Portraits in NWN2 are handled exactly the same way they were in NWN1 now except they are smaller tga files. If you have them in your portrait directory, and someone is using one that you have, you see it.

The reason we can't see any here in Sundren I do not know. It could be a simple click in a box to allow or not allow portraits to be seen. Just about every other server that I join I am able to see others portraits that I have in my own directory. You might already know all of this and if so sorry for the redundancy Take Care.

Just so you know, there is a bug still iwth the portrait system. It works great for players, have no doubt. But someone running the DM client tries to examine a player using it, the dm will usually crash. Theres some first generation workarounds for it out in the public, but we're waiting for something polished from obsidian before we even begin thinking about this.

Its really tough on the DM client.

Ah no wonder the DMs kept crashing on my old server that uses custom portraits.
