Custom in-game portraits

(Apologies if I missed posts concerning this topic - I did search!)

As of the latest NWN2 patch, you can now have custom portraits, changeable in-game. It is much easier to create one than it was in NWN1 - you only need one TGA file with 24BPP and 128x128 pixels, and it goes into the portraits folder inside the NWN2 Game or profile folder

As in NWN1, the portraits must still be on the PC that is running the client for them to show up for each individual player. (I assume those who don't have the portrait will see the standard one instead...)


Do we have a vault on the web somewhere where we can stick our portraits for download? If not, are there plans to make one?

Likely, we won't do any sort of custom portraits on Sundren... mostly due to the fact that will just inflate the updater's download size. However, that being said -- if there is enough of a player reponse in favour of this feature, then perhaps I might set up some optional initiative for people who want to download and use custom portraits.

Again, no one will ever be under any obligation to download them.

Does it have any effect on IG performance, while actually logged into the server? If not, then I'm with Gairun in that 'wantz' section of his. I hate looking at the same friggin' pictures over and over again.

I also prefer the protraits over the heads. I think it gives it more of a DnD feel ... maybe that's just me though.

Also, I never liked the heads. =X

For people interested in making custom portraits, these are the required specifications:

Dimensions must be 128x128, bitdepth 24 bits, save as TGA (targa) using no compression.

Saulus, how about custom sound sets for the PCs? Could this be added to the optional pack? I got an override file from another server that has a whole mess of PC soundsets to choose from. Very cool (obviously I don't use the override here per server rules).

I have to say I think it would be great to have a downloads section where users could upload their custom portraits, I know I would use one. Not to mention that not everyone can show what they really wanted their character to look like with the NWN2 heads, and they may be able to better express that with a portrait.
