You can only lose levels if you're level 10 or greater. And people say they are fearful... this is good! You don't have to get killed adventuring. My last character made it to level 15 with a total of two deaths while adventuring; once getting blown up by one of his companions (not sure if this counts) and the second time because I really wanted to see inside those caves in Sestra (I knew how that was going to end
), and the penalties weren't so nasty back then (I tried to avoid getting snuffed as a matter of style rather than fear of penalties). If your group want to go somewhere hideously dangerous... maybe point out IC "Whoah, hold up, that might not be a good idea. Can we really handle that?". I've gotta say, some people don't die at all and still manage to get experience and levels and stuff.
