Hey Saulus, I have a question about the quests. If you're at max level will you still be able to gain the xp rewards from the quests?

Now that I think of it, I believe the bank is not listed as a bank on the map. I believe it is actually the Temple of Waukeen, unless there is another bank than this one, I think that's it. I haven't really started using it myself, because my characters have never had more than like 6k gold, but I probably will eventually.

I believe a penalty system in place is just fine and it should encourage most people to cooperate better and try to keep eachother alive. Death shouldn't be taken too lightly.
On the other hand it may also make some flee the scene earlier to save themselves at the expense of others, but that should in time cause some sort of a 'natural selection' where people prefer going out into dangerous areas with those they know they can trust not to let them fall if at all possible.

However, I have one fairly major gripe with the system, which is the possibility to lose levels. I'm not 100% sure if this is still a problem in NWN2, but in the first, if you lost a level due to scripted events, you would also lose all skillpoints invested that level and it didn't take into account potential unspent skillpoints used/not used. This led to the following: you could lose more skillpoints than you gained in the last level, corrupting your character and making you unable to log in on the server. You could also lose no skillpoints at all and keep the unspent ones in your 'pool' when losing a level, and when going up you'd end up with more skillpoints than normally possible, also corrupting your char.

This is why when I died yesterday I felt rather forced to use a hard earned signus rather than just have me resurrected and deal with the xp loss. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to play anymore the next time I'd log in. Does anyone know if this was fixed for NWN2? It'd be somewhat comforting to know if it is.

Then a minor gripe: I find that the randomness of the loss of items for no-resurrection respawning is a bit awkward. Losing items is fine, but losing a couple hundred darts or your rare magical armor and weaponry is worlds apart. As it stands you can actually protect yourself by stacking up weightless inexpensive junk on your character. It would be good to have some control over what items you 'sacrifice' upon death, in accordance to their value (something like above 300 gold value in items per level or some such).

Please don't turn this into another XP/death rant.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

Not when the reason for the fear is an oversight in NWN's mechanics for removing a level that makes you unable to log in with your character anymore...

I do not know if that was in response to my post, but if it was, please read my concerns before dismissing it as a rant. Because it didn't even come close to being a complaint about the system you thought up, but more so my worries about a poor solution on NWN's developers' part.

The death penalty is a good thing. Sure you lose experience and gold (I have never lost a magic item!). Your character is not invincible! If you can't handle something you come across, turn around and run or do a tactical retreat.

Even the DMs will throw stuff at you that you can't handle. Saulus had the Sundren Army bombard the Schild Mountainside yesterday, just at Isaniel and I (Calowyn) were coming down it. We had to run and run fast to avoid getting blasted. All in all, it was a great experience though. You never know when a DM is going to throw in something unexpected.

My best advice is alway be prepared to run!

As stated, our fine DMs are usually kind enough to bring back the dead when they have personally killed them off through their divine hand. There is no guarantee of course, but generally this is what I have come to expect.

If you get killed with no DM involvement however, you are just gonna have to eat that XP. I tell you, I have been dying a lot less lately and RPing more.

I like the death system. Due to a few deaths, Poor Braxton has yet to reach L4 because just 2 goblins are a threat and he must rely upon tactics and companions. <You can create RP from deaths, he once was knocked out and lost a powerful hammer he was looking to sell to a Paladin.> I am sure a lot of thought was put into the death system. Was all gold and all equipment loss ever considered? now that would be interesting...

Thank you, I forgot to code in the check for the minimum value of a lost item. Thats my next thing I'm doing today. Your right of course, people will flood with useless junk, if I don't.

It would be good to have some control over what items you 'sacrifice' upon death, in accordance to their value (something like above 300 gold value in items per level or some such).
Why would you assume their is no control? There is. I won't reveal the mechanics but I will tell you this much... if you can buy it in a store, you can lose it. IF a DM gave it to you, you got a pretty good shot of never losing it. (Unless the DM gave you something you can buy in a store).

Basicly unique and plot related items won't be lost.

Not when the reason for the fear is an oversight in NWN's mechanics for removing a level that makes you unable to log in with your character anymore...
I honestly do not remember this being a bug in NWN2 unless you used ScripterRon's Character Editor off the vault. (It had this bug). NWN2 actually stores your previous levels and skill points and everything about you in your character file, for each and every level.
There were bugs in NWN2 with deleveling in the case of sorcerers and bards with spell swapping causing your PC to become invalid, but that was fixed a patch ago.
I just went in and deleveld a pc while storing pooled skill points. It correctly restored him to the previous level. Sorry.

I heard of this bug in nwn1 though, if it makes you feel any better.

I feel for your loss of a Signus, but what can I say? If your afraid of a bug, then bring it to the staff, don't change your gameplay because of a fear of bug. (Especially if your not sure if said bug exists). If something does happen to your pc because of a gameplay bug, you can be sure we'll take care of you.

                          Lost Levels

I lost a level one time. Made 15th, then got killed shortly afterwards. I did not get corrupted and still play the character. He has a bunch of Signus now and is still very careful where he goes and what he fights!

He usually runs around RPing and having fun anyway...........Elric.

So, as far as I know, you don't get corrupted if you lose a level in Sundren.

While I personally think the death penalty is incredibly steep, I'll squrrel away my concerns until it comes up for consideration again.

Items can be stored if you rent a hotel room, and there is a bank in the Temple of Waukeen.
