KOS really? hmm.. there is another option. I use it every time I see a Wild elf that someone decided to shade his skin tone to near black, Its called ROS. Run On Sight.

The legends behind the Drow ARE terrifying. I am really surprised by the number of people that don't flee at the sight of a drow. I know I at the very least keep large objects between them and me, preferably large object on fire. Or half orcs. Or half orcs on fire is even better.

You forget the simple rule governing the entire Forgotten Realms.

If anything is exotic/unique/interesting/uncommon it is instantly mass marketed and churned out like spam until whatever qualities made that thing interesting to start with are nothing more then a reason to want to face-palm yourself everytime you see someone talk about it/them/he/she.

Well some people wouldn't play Drow as Drizzt clones, myself included.

And I think that KOS is stupid. So the thing of your nightmares comes to pay a visit and first thing any normal person does is try and kill it? Give me a break, the realistic thing is to, as sharrington says, run.

But yeah I understand that wouldn't happen, shame really.

Uh, I used Exigo and Sundren Government as examples, didn't I? Are you saying they would all run from a Drow? Not plural, but singular...

I find that highly unrealistic. They have armies, basically. Yeah, they're NPC's, but you can't pretend they aren't there...

Furthermore, if all PC's ran away from you, as a Drow, you would have nobody to RP with. And if you followed them, they really would be justified to attack, using the whole "cornered animal" thing as reasoning.

Drow don't make for good surfacers.

Just happened in game, good example of a Drow sighting.

                  Well actaully you said this:

                  Which I was responding to.

Granted Exigo and Governments wouldn't run but then they aren't individuals as you rightly point out, and thus separate to that point above.

Adventureres in general are not 'normal individuals'. You have to remember that fact, PC's aren't commoners, they are the 1% of the population with the capacity for talents only dreamed of. My druid knows when to back off and when to press the attack, hell he's faced demons before. A drow raiding party would barely cause him to think twice. However a full blown platoon of drow with a priestess leading it would make him find higher ground and fast.

I think it depends, because just seeing a drow doesn't mean you'll run from it, it may not be the thing of your nightmares. For instance a Paladin or a Cleric might feel the need to try to remove this evil presence from the face of the earth. There are also other types like dragon slayers or undead hunter types that strive to face these horrendous creatures and might see a drow as a welcomed challenge. Although all the other people who don't have some kind of personal vendetta against this kind of creature would probably run because in their case they don't need to stop and stand up for something because they risk having nothing to gain and everything to lose, those are pretty bad odds.

I've said it before, people overdo the prejudice against drow, ignoring the situation and character presented to them.

People also play down Eilistraee way too much. Every drow that ever walked the surface knows about Eilistraee, whether they are surface-raiding spider kissers or random outcasts and whether they decide to worship her or not.

But drow have been done here before. And as much as it had its moments, it was ultimately a mess, and I understand completely the devs decision to disallow any drow.

Allowing Drow characters would open a whole barrel of worms that no one really needs right now. It's an awful idea.

I used to be the drow dm on an nwn server named Astoria back in the day. I have about 5 years experience rp'ing drow and 2 years dm'ing them unless you count PnP then its about 4 years. I effing love drow. I have read all the books and love making PnP campaigns based around them. What I do not like is all the flaming and grief they cause online in NWN. It takes a crap load of work and patience to have drow as a playable race on a server. The way this server is I say keep them a monster race until there are plenty of caverns and areas to seperate the surface and underdark. Even better lock the two worlds apart for 3 weeks a month and open it one week a month for interaction if even that.

Sure it sounds like a great idea to have them now but from what I have played on this server, experienced as a drow player and dm, it would be crazy to unlock them how it is currently setup & it would do nothing but harm.

I used the same name I used then. I played on that server as Xel'gia Di'mana. My DM name was Dragon Horse. You guys I think were right before me before the mod got stolen by Kain I think and Michelle pulled me on as a dm. Am I incorrect?
