I wish our DMs did more of _____

The only players I DM kill are ones that completely try to highjack events and resist blatent DM narratives and implement their own "DMing". It cracks me up when I see a player bragging about beating up a NPC right in front of it, especially after just having got mashed by him. Some people are just asking for it.

Sorry, let me clarify

Traveling in Viridale with a partner of mine, we were fighting some goblins. Suddenly, without any plot going on, my partner keels over, dead. OOCly, something is sent to the player in the nature of "hehe" from the DM--there is no doubt it was a DM death. No respawn is given, and I have to sneak my way out of the area solo.

In this example, the DM was joking around with the player. I don't think the player who was killed even cared much: he was annoyed about it privately but joked back to the DM. Me? Yeah, it bothered me at the time. I guess I don't mind joking around every now-and-then, but seeing the same practices like the ones I've listed have turned me off a little.

That being said, I really enjoy the server and the work everyone puts in. If the majority of the players and staff think this is all in good fun, then cool beans

I don't really know about the other DM's because normally when I'm on the DM I see the most is LH, but I have to say I think you've been doing a great job with all of this lately LH. Although I kind of missed one of the big stories lately (the one about Landaren), I've managed to get lumped in to the trial story by helping Cadmus and I'm glad I did. It seems like it's turning out to be very intriguing with whatever is going to happen, so kudos to you LH. I just hope I get a little bit more time to play this week than I did last week .

Dune and Mako have been doing a great job themselves The teamwork on Saturday during the city hall meeting was top notch. They both have lots of knowledge when it comes to Sundren, and use it in creative ways.

But failing that, all I can say is that I really like the things I've seen from the DM team, even though I cannot fully appreciate it. What has been posted on the forums has been leaving me thinking "Damnit, I wish I was there", and that says something about how interesting the stories sound. Yay for DM's, and stuff.

I have to say that I have been involved in so many RPs lately that it is getting hard to remember which one I am in at the time.

I think the coolest ones have been the battles in Veritas! We had a Sundren mage and Sundren spearmen and used tactics and all. It was very well done and a lot of fun. (Great Job LH)!

the Epic Rp that is ongoing currently is very well done also! I don't know exactly how I got to be the defense for Kemnebi, but hey, it has been a lot of fun lately and I can't wait for the trial!

S'pose the only real thing I'd have to contribute is lavishing more praise on the DM's, since the first day I started playing on Sundren they've been attentive and all-around frickin awesome, as well as all the players. Thanks for making me feel welcome ;D

I would really like to see the DM's be a bit more heavy on players who do not follow the tenents of their faith, or their alignment to a certain extent.

Examples,
A lawful good paladin who leaves his companion in a fight to go grab some loot should really lose some lawful points and get a chaotic alignment shift.

A cleric of illmater who doesn't tend to the wounds of those around him, and instead is more worried about where to hunt, should suddenly find one day that illmater no longer hears his prayers.

A druid running around in metal armour and not having any real reason other then 'itz better ac lolz!11' should find that the animals of the woods and the land itself withdrawing from him.

And basically just alignment shifts for people who 'continually' act contradictory to their alignment. That doesn't mean a one time odd reaction they have to a situation, but a pattern that forms of them going in a different direction then their alignment.

Alternatively however I would like to see the DM's be more rewarding to those characters who do strive to play the role they have chosen, wether it be with more PC related DM run quests, to more support from their church/diety/factions.

Those are good points Gairun, but, some of those are unintuitive for non-DnD players. Honestly, if you're introduction to DnD is through NWN, you might have NO idea that druids frown upon metal armor. Helpful scoldings from NPCs ICly, tells from DMs as reminders (I've seen both!) are great solutions. Penalizing them with XP reductions or alignment shifts for ignorance of DnD specifics might be over the top IMO.

I can't speak for the other DMs, but I modify alignments on a regular basis. There's a certain paladin who often passes on rewards, or donates his gold to charity, and in those cases I sometimes bump up the good points. If a certain jailbird really did kill a certain Helmite NPC in a plot, I would have given him evil points. Recently, I've modified alignments of good PCs casting evil spells. Etc.

And yes, there's a lot to be said about really role-playing your alignment, and I certainly expect characters to do that. I'll reward those that do.

I think everybody is doing a fantastic job, both on the dev side and the player side. There was a period where I was having a hard time finding things to do, but things have definitely lived up a lot, and I think that's largely because of the increased level of DM activity - I know LH has been investing a lot of time and I think it's really paid off.

As a side, I really like how the plots are conducive to character confrontation and pvp, but it seems like most players are still on friendly terms from an ooc perspective.
