I have a ranger and I admit I have seen some possible ranger types, but I think most of them are elves that use longbows mainly because they cannot melee (maybe mages or some such) or are going on to become arcane archers. I haven't really seen too many "typical" rangers that patrol and talk about saving the forest and such around. Sigrun and Myrddin come to mind most of the time when thinking of Sundren rangers.

I did take the panther because it went better with my character, but yes, especially the picture/icon, it looks like a big rat, LOL. And yes, they are pathetically weak, but I use mine, as Sigrun uses his, as an RP thing and not for combat.

Though there is the occasional moment where Nyx charges something ... like a big high level undead thing ...I haven't even seen yet and scores a knockdown.

      That makes me happy.

Then sometimes he gets killed by a goblin, that makes me frowny.

Note, undeadsteak that since a druid's companion matches his progression .. that feat may not have any effect, as it would raise at every odd level your companion's hit dice above your own.

Primarily, Natural Bond is good for multiclassed druids and rangers (because rangers don't get a level 1 companion until ranger level 4.)

Check your companion to make sure, I don't know your build.

And yes I agree companions can be very useful. More so for druids because the have much better ability through spells to make them more powerful.

I have a druid and I love my bear companion for RP and combat. In reference to the animal companion feat thing, as far as I can understand from the manual it does absolutely nothing for a true druid (except waste a feat) the only thing it's used for is when someone multi-classes, the manual puts it as, with this feat a level 10 druid would be considered a level 10 druid for determining his companions HD, but a level 5 druid / level 5 fighter would be considered a level 8 druid for determining his companions HD.

Edit: apparently I resurrected an old thread without realizing it lol.

              It wasn't that old.

The Natural Bond feat does however work for rangers of any build including pure because as mentioned they start with a lower level companion.

The Feat description does a really poor job on explaining this. I had to test this all myself to figure it out.

I assumed undeadsteak was talking about his druid of Malar. Although I did not know that it gave rangers a bonus, that's pretty interesting, I figured it wouldn't work for pure rangers either since for them their ranger level determines it good to know.

Well, A druid gets a level 1 comapanion at level one. Progression starts from there.

A ranger gets a level 1 companion at level four .. so there's that wiggle room there.

Would it effectively make the rangers companion just as strong as the druids or does that +3 only bridge the gap a tiny bit as the player advances to the higher levels (I.e. do you know if (unbuffed) a level 30 ranger with animal companion feat is just as strong as a level 30 druids, or does that +3 level bonus start to fade at the higher levels?)

It would put the ranger's companion on par with a druid's companion yes. (Remember companions level in tiers, every other character level they go up.)

At very high levels, because of the way the even an odd companion levels work .. they all eventually start lagging behind actual character level. The obvious question would be since a level 20 Druid ends up with a level 13 companion, shouldn't Natural Bond eventually kick in? I don't believe it does. But feel free to test it.

Also note, the +3 level bonus I believe is Epic Animal Companion, which we should never have to worry about on Sundren. Regardless, Epic Animal Companion actual will benefit pure druids as its not restricted against character level.

Hmm... I tested a dragon companion build once and didn't even think to check the differences with or without the epic animal companion. On that note... I wonder why the pet becomes a copper dragon (I think it's copper, looks like a copper) and the druid can't be a copper? Copper dragon is the kind I wanted to be lol.

With the pet you should get the choice between Bronze and Blue. (good and evil essentially). Dragon Shape does allow you to change to a Blue Dragon, not Bronze unfortunately

                              Well.

There's quite a few Clerics. And quite a few Wizards. And a few Druids.

But I bet I'm the only one on the server who can say I'm all three.

If your character idea is unique, I say stick with it. Deleting seems like a shame. At least RP your death.
