Ya, I think the prime moment for that was where he'd managed to instigate a few people going into a certain area that PCs weren't even meant to be able to access, because he wanted to see a certain planar phenomena . I seem to remember actively grovelling and trying to offer service to Hadavi when she turned up (yet another pathetic deception). But I think the "Crap, I might have chosen the wrong option" thing became inevitable as soon as we walked in the front door XD

Hah. I remember that. That was the first instance of Jo having to fight Malaclypse and not particularly wanting to. :P Mal was the last person alive out of his entire band by the time we got there. I just let the other person there do the killing. And then you had to go make the same mistake and assault the Enclave a month later. Bad Mal!

          • A halfling something or other Sigrun, LOL.........he is the mighty Sal!

I do understand where you are coming from and it can get irritating. Yesterday before the RP I was playing my much lower level ranger and he hooked up with a bard type who was a couple levels higher. We killed the goblins and such around the gnoll fort; however, when we approached the higher level, my ranger craftily snuck up to see what was up there and he saw the giant gnoll (chief). We had a quick conference and rightly decided we would get our asses handed to us and subsequently left.

But yes, a somewhat easier death penalty and raise dead cost does probably make people risk things they probably wouldn't if they knew they would be permanently dead.

Man, if I was in a situation like some in Sundren in RL (just an example), I would damn well prepare to the hilt. I would have every scroll I could afford, every buff I could beg, and at least ten badasses in front of me before I opened that damn door behind which I don't know what the hell is waiting, LOL!

                  • I don't think my rants are very intimidating... We always seem happy a few posts later. I need to be more of a monarchy/dictatorship with my methods.

I do feel death needs to be way harsh compared to what it is. I think what bugs me more in events is this:

                    Someone dies, BLARGH!

                    Cleric casts raise dead.

DM goes 'I hate that spell, no drama to death anymore'

Make the death penalties and costs for raising nastier. Maybe a day worth of attribute damage if you die and get raised as well, or something.

                        *remembers to start acting intimidated*

Could go a modified version of the SWD20 Dark Side corruption system.

For every resurrection, one of the character's physical ability scores (Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution) permanently drops by one point (but never the same one in a row). Or perhaps just Constitution drops. Once Constitution reaches 0 from this process, the character dies permanently.

                            • Maybe we should start rewarding the good players more rather than penalizing them because of the bad players?

                              • I just had someone PM me and say I made the module perfect for powergamers because the people wouldn't roleplay with them. I was like, "Durrr, what do you expect if you go to a battlefield to make friends?" When does personal responsibility come into play with people? They were essentially PM'ing me to complain that people were higher level than them who went to grind. They always say they are RP'ers, but then you ask "Why are you bugging me about exp and dungeon crawling when you're mad at the people who are doing it?!"

People, go out and dungeon crawl. If I catch you power crawling, that's your ass

I love rant threads. Cuz I can talk about people like that and it's still on topic.
