About the bluff skill, the book says that the DC depends on what the target is ready to believe.
If a bluff is a really big piece of junk like "I could not go to the meeting yesterday because a dragon tried to destroy my village and I finallly killed it alone...", the target would very unlikely believe it.

For my characters, I apply the same rule. If someone is attempting to bluff me, I'll try to imagine if my character is likely to believe it or not and set the DC according to that.

Drogan Ebonshield - the dwarven mercenary

Whether it can succeed or not based on what the character knows/believes in is really based on, as said before by Nutranurse, the situation.

It is good to see that people generally do look at the social skills in a context just beyond a "what you see is what you get, and I must roll with it" perspective.
