Wow, totally off base, but I'll bite.

Elitist? Yes. I'm sorry, I take pride in what I do. I feel above others in what I do when they attack what I do because I do it better than they can. Yes, I code better than you Reemixx, but that is NOT the point of my post. Is that wrong of me? Not to me. I'd hate to go up to a painter and tell him his painting is flawed as if I was a better painter than him to pick it apart. I jumped to Nyssis defense on a post of that nature when someone attacked her art as if he could draw better. I hate people who do that alot. I won't let people spit on others for RP like RP police and I won't let people attack me for coding.

Have I lost track of player feelings? Maybe. It's hard to figure out player feelings when people complain in different directions. For example, I just asked to people online what they thought would make sundren way better so I could consider it, the answers were things already in Sundren. So it makes me wonder what do people really want? I, right now, have absolutely NO clue what players want in a PW. None. I don't make that decision either. I told Saulus when I came back, I don't want to make that decision. It didn't work out for me, because in the end, I'm just a mad scientist who looks for some feature people ask for (Like character deleting) and then give it to them. When they use it and smile, THAT is my fun.

No, I don't code for Sundren because I enjoy it. It's hard to enjoy doing something you do at work 50 hours a week as I said. I enjoy it because of the end result. I enjoy it because players enjoy it. If players DON'T enjoy it, I don't enjoy it. That is why I stated "Your statement makes me not want to work on Sundren" because if you aren't enjoying Sundren, what am I enjoying by working on it? See the problem?

I was asked to change experience system because people felt 5 months was too long. So I drop it to a month of work to hit level 20. They complained about %'s limitting them so I got rid of that. They complained about little incentive to party, so there's a 25% bonus to experience. They complained people are farming areas they want to level, so farming features have been removed, etc etc. I can't do anything to help you if I don't know what's wrong for you.

Seriously, I can't read your mind, I can't. If you sit quiet and then suddenly speak and say "You don't care about your players!" then what do you seriously expect for an end result?

Then there's also the issue of where does responsibility lay? I only have control over one thing, scripts, code, and programming. That's my job. Yet, your attacks are on the whole of the staff. So if you're saying "The code is meaningless to me" then don't attack me saying "You lost track of players GBX" because anything I WOULD do for you would be meaningless. If it's player interaction you are looking for, how can I change how other players interact with you? I can't. I'd like to! I'd love to say "Everyone get online right now and we'll hang out and interact" but that's not in my power.

I'm a tired black man, whose got a thread of attacks going back and forth and feeling hurt by the fact any players think I don't care about their opinion. I've ignored nobody who hasn't attacked me with messages and IF it seems I did, I apologize, because it's not my intent to ignore anyone. Everything I'd like to do isn't always what I'm able to do. Even after you're saying you're done, I'm still right here trying to figure out why you want to be done?

I'd totally love exp to just be 100+ xp a kill and players just take responsibility. I'd love stores to be overflowing with magic items of all types, but I can't because some players just exploit it. I'd really love to go and map new dungeons right now, but I can't because my priority is code. I have WAY more fun mapping than coding, I seriously do. Everyone does, why do you think there's so few coders in the world?

So, I ask with all seriousness, "What direction has changed?"

What is wrong? What can be better? Don't hold back. I'm not the one calling people powergamers. Honestly? I feel D&D is DESIGNED for powergaming. I mean, it's RP is based on levels. It's levels are based on how much you kill. If I want to be a good liar (Bluff) I have to have killed all the critters in the universe to be 23 ranks into it? That's counter productive. I wouldn't even care that people were running around in circles farming dungeons if it wasn't for the fact other players want to run the same dungeons.

No, I don't feel like a better person than you Reemix. I don't feel like a better person than anyone that logs in to play (except the guys I banned, take that banned people!) What I feel though is that players ARE distancing themselves from the Staff, whether my fault or others, and I would rather they didn't.

Wow... I really did not mean to sound like I was flaming. I do apologize.

Reemixx has got my feelings down perfectly.

Simply put, I had plans for my character and I really looked forward to seeing them through. I'm just not ready to develop her all over again. Not quite yet. And don't tell me to make a new one or "just keep developing her" -- I can't, I don't care to explain.

I'll play when the server is out of Beta.

I don't think it was a flame, and I'm not replying angry, more jaded. Even before all these posts, I hear on MSN "I'm not gonna bother" some because of Sundren. Some because of me. Some because of NWN2. End result, only a few hundred people max are ever online for NWN2 at one time.

If the wipe makes you not want to play, I can understand that.

          Question

I have a question on this matter, i'm going to aply for a ECL race, i'm planing for this character to be the only one i play if not, it'll be the main one, if it get's aproved wich i hope it does. so my question is, if there is a wipe, do i have to re-aply, or i may just re-make that character after the wipe?
OMG! You surface racists, drow are people too.

Okay, GBX. Thank you for not flaming in response to my flame. Yes, mine was a flame, directed right at you. You rub me the wrong way. It's true.

Honestly? From the beginning I never sat quiet. I always expressed my opinion. And it was always something like LETS JUST ROLEPLAY AND SCREW EVERYTHING ELSE! Well, more or less. But if you want to know what I want, and if you want it in black and white, right here for you to see, read on.

I want the staff to focus on the one most important thing for the server right now. I'm guessing that would be balance, equality for all characters, hence the vault wipe? I want you guys to fix that. Then I want you all to leave it alone and stop tinkering. I want to see players trust the server enough to flood back onto it in the dozens. I want to see DM run stories again instead of logging in to test stuff. I want to roleplay with other characters like I used to. I want my shady little character to continue to earn her reputation and be known to other characters.

Above all, I want the server to be populated, and to do that you guys have to make decisions and stick with them. There's other PW's that have absolutely crappy XP systems, continiously grinding to level up, over and over again. But the servers are always full. Why? Things aren't constantly in a state of change. They suck, sure, but they always stay the same.

Find what it is you want to achieve and stick with it. Players are always going to request things, but when it comes to major systems you've implemented like XP and spells etc, make a decision, get it to work, and stick with it. Having lots of people playing and a few that don't like the system is better than having no-one playing at all because you can't make up your minds, or you're trying to satisfy too many conflicting opinions.

Lallendos: I would MUCH RATHER an open space with pretty backdrops if there were people in it who were RPing, than the state Sundren is currently in. Never did I say I expect DMs to be there all the time. If I'm bored, or want a story going on, I do it myself. I do roleplay it, thank you. That's all I was ever doing right from the beginning.

However, if you want me to hit the door, I will. Like bombas238, I'll consider playing again when the server is out of beta.

Reading all these posts I have to say, Reemix the server vault was needed. Very much so. Hell I don't like the wipe because I loved Jaggath, but honestly He could step on all the new player, and roleplaying him usually made him go into conflict with them. Plus it'd take a lot of time to make enough haks to make any old character compatible to the new systems (Which I think are pretty damned well done.) And with the split and messed up storylines we had to redo something.

PS, GBX who is it you work for? I only ask cause I saw mention of WAR and I am a fanatical Warhammer fan boy.

Wow, this is going to be a touchy subject for quite some time. Alright, time for the resident Crawling Chaos to give an unrelated (and completely insane) opinion that may or may not be easier to digest.

Sundren is a phenomenal project. It truly is, and anyone who argues that point is either suffering from blunt brain trauma, or hasn't given it the chance it deserves. What makes it so great, however, is not just the fact that it's a roleplaying server with great coding, a great host server, and all sorts of fancy features - it's being driven by a staff that desires, and has the skill, to deliver the best. Pure and simple, no bullcrap. Once GBX sets his mind to it, he can dig through just about any code and create magic where there was before a void. Lallendos' networking knowledge keeps us running to the best of anyone's abilities, and has even resolved issues that would cause even more lag had they not been. We have some of the best maps I have ever seen, even with my graphics set on a paltry 'medium' (Yes, I'm praising you, Xeraph). And, I'm not sure how much this figures in for all of you, me and Echelon are trying our best to make the time we have to spend on Sundren as fun and eventful for our players as possible.

We can only focus on one issue at a time. Progress is being made at an amazing rate, as opposed to where we were even a few months ago. How many of the players were here five or more months ago, when an update came every two months or so? Things are going to continue to improve, as well. It might not happen tomorrow, but good things take time, and patience. We'd rather you appreciate what we have done, and are doing - and hopefully continue to support us as we continue on the journey.

After all, negativity helps no one.

                  On that note, everyone tell Lallendos that euthanizing the poor Satoshi would be immoral! I only bite when I'm really, really hungry.... ;.;

I think this entire thread can be summed up by a quote my Father always used to tell me:

"If you don't like it, learn how it works and try to change it. If you can't change it, find something else you DO like."
                    Don't run...you'll only die tired.

Sounds fine to me - I'm in mid computer change so will not be about on Sundren for a few months - however, I will definitely enjoy returning and a new character will be the order of the day - Zeb was ready for the boneyard anyhow the old coot!

                          @Reemixx.

I can see that. That's all I wanted to know really.

I want things settled too. Part of the XP system change was for epic levels too, because it was decided people can't level into Epic levels on their own. It's already setup in the new system.

As for DM events, well, we have a lack of DMs. There's 4, and one has computer trouble right now. Lallen keeps asking me do I know where he can hire more DMs and I say the same thing every time "If I knew that, I'd go get em for you".

We're trying to bring players back as much as we can. Last night had about 20 people on for a bit.

Personally I'd try to volunteer for a DM slot...but I've never DM'd in NWN, only in PnP games. So I'd know I'd be one of those horrible ones.

And no way would I want to slander the DM's working on here with my prescence. I'm stil trying to figure out how to be a good player for this place, anyays.

I give my computer three crashes in a row before I give up for the day, so if I'm not on, then its most likely because of that.
