Wow, totally off base, but I'll bite.
Elitist? Yes. I'm sorry, I take pride in what I do. I feel above others in what I do when they attack what I do because I do it better than they can. Yes, I code better than you Reemixx, but that is NOT the point of my post. Is that wrong of me? Not to me. I'd hate to go up to a painter and tell him his painting is flawed as if I was a better painter than him to pick it apart. I jumped to Nyssis defense on a post of that nature when someone attacked her art as if he could draw better. I hate people who do that alot. I won't let people spit on others for RP like RP police and I won't let people attack me for coding.
Have I lost track of player feelings? Maybe. It's hard to figure out player feelings when people complain in different directions. For example, I just asked to people online what they thought would make sundren way better so I could consider it, the answers were things already in Sundren. So it makes me wonder what do people really want? I, right now, have absolutely NO clue what players want in a PW. None. I don't make that decision either. I told Saulus when I came back, I don't want to make that decision. It didn't work out for me, because in the end, I'm just a mad scientist who looks for some feature people ask for (Like character deleting) and then give it to them. When they use it and smile, THAT is my fun.
No, I don't code for Sundren because I enjoy it. It's hard to enjoy doing something you do at work 50 hours a week as I said. I enjoy it because of the end result. I enjoy it because players enjoy it. If players DON'T enjoy it, I don't enjoy it. That is why I stated "Your statement makes me not want to work on Sundren" because if you aren't enjoying Sundren, what am I enjoying by working on it? See the problem?
I was asked to change experience system because people felt 5 months was too long. So I drop it to a month of work to hit level 20. They complained about %'s limitting them so I got rid of that. They complained about little incentive to party, so there's a 25% bonus to experience. They complained people are farming areas they want to level, so farming features have been removed, etc etc. I can't do anything to help you if I don't know what's wrong for you.
Seriously, I can't read your mind, I can't. If you sit quiet and then suddenly speak and say "You don't care about your players!" then what do you seriously expect for an end result?
Then there's also the issue of where does responsibility lay? I only have control over one thing, scripts, code, and programming. That's my job. Yet, your attacks are on the whole of the staff. So if you're saying "The code is meaningless to me" then don't attack me saying "You lost track of players GBX" because anything I WOULD do for you would be meaningless. If it's player interaction you are looking for, how can I change how other players interact with you? I can't. I'd like to! I'd love to say "Everyone get online right now and we'll hang out and interact" but that's not in my power.
I'm a tired black man, whose got a thread of attacks going back and forth and feeling hurt by the fact any players think I don't care about their opinion. I've ignored nobody who hasn't attacked me with messages and IF it seems I did, I apologize, because it's not my intent to ignore anyone. Everything I'd like to do isn't always what I'm able to do. Even after you're saying you're done, I'm still right here trying to figure out why you want to be done?
I'd totally love exp to just be 100+ xp a kill and players just take responsibility. I'd love stores to be overflowing with magic items of all types, but I can't because some players just exploit it. I'd really love to go and map new dungeons right now, but I can't because my priority is code. I have WAY more fun mapping than coding, I seriously do. Everyone does, why do you think there's so few coders in the world?
So, I ask with all seriousness, "What direction has changed?"
What is wrong? What can be better? Don't hold back. I'm not the one calling people powergamers. Honestly? I feel D&D is DESIGNED for powergaming. I mean, it's RP is based on levels. It's levels are based on how much you kill. If I want to be a good liar (Bluff) I have to have killed all the critters in the universe to be 23 ranks into it? That's counter productive. I wouldn't even care that people were running around in circles farming dungeons if it wasn't for the fact other players want to run the same dungeons.
No, I don't feel like a better person than you Reemix. I don't feel like a better person than anyone that logs in to play (except the guys I banned, take that banned people!) What I feel though is that players ARE distancing themselves from the Staff, whether my fault or others, and I would rather they didn't.
