Lallendos, im sorry about your bad encounters with evil, but ive met evil drow that i've really enjoyed rping with. Take isovien for example. It was fun having an evil invisible drow popping out of nowhere, threatening us, then making a sneaky move and attacking, and mostly retreating or making us run away. Evil characters make the setting more fun, but yes, if theres not going to be any application on evil, then your going to have those who just want to go around killing anyone they want. But that doesn't mean its only going to be drow evil. Make all evil application, because you can use the "Im half-orc so im evil" excuse as much as you can use the "im drow so im evil" excuse. Those playing evil should show responsibilty and not pick on lower players, as i don't think thats fair. I'm not entirely sure if thats what the drow did, but even if they did, i remember seeing loads of "Drow hunting" groups joining up, whenever they heard of drows about.

Lol, ive got to wait 2 weeks?!

I'll have nothing to do.. Poor me. and what i hate about this is that it happened right at summer. Right at my break. Everything messes up. This is typical. Each summer, i have nothing to play... Other then WC3 and CoD 2.

Sorry to hear about your dodgy experiences Lallandos, that sort of thing makes me angry (especially hearing that stuff about your daughter getting hassled) . On the flipside, having evil players on the server (if well played, and alot of people do know how to do it well) makes life alot more interesting. Without them there isnt so much for good players to do without DM time which isnt just random mob-killing, or big RP love ins where people just sit around and bask in the general atmosphere of each others goodliness (which is sickeningly saccharine enough that good taste virtually requires that something nasty and evil happen to them ). Granted, problems can potentially emerge, but some excellent RP can come out of it too.

Anyway, I wants to be evil mwoohaha

I personally had some grand times fighting the drow, both winning and losing, and it helped shape my main character quite a bit. Drow should be restricted, I think, because of reasons that tie into the Forgotten Realms -- "friendly" drow, be they good or neutral, should be VERY rare on the surface to allow for the majority of characters to react as most inhabitants of the Realms would. It's a bit difficult for someone to mutter about "bloody drow, they'll stab us in the back" when they're alone in a tavern getting death-glares from four priestesses of Ellistrae.

Unfriendly drow also require considerable maturity and dedication from an RPer, since they're basically built for the sorts of conflict and capture that can create a lot of hurt feelings if done badly. Picking off newbies, for instance, while probably accurate is also a great way to drive away people who are looking at the server. Done well, as I have experienced, it's really worthwhile to have them around in limited numbers.

Yeah, there were alot of Drow, it made it a bit difficult to say "All Drow are evil." But i believe there was still some people (Mainly dwarves) who still held onto that belief. The IC petition to remove Drow was a bad choice IMO, i know it was done IC, but fun is more important then RP..

I've got one strong memory of the drows of sundren. That was when I went into avanthyr with Jerek, and I saw a drow which derek just had to confront. When I started to blame the drow for being evil, seductive, manipulative and all sorts of bad adjectives, (almost) noone went with me. most people around me started to call me maniac since "these drows" were good. Frist it was one drow, and then there was 2, and even three a couple of minutes if I remember correctly, which all were good natured and had no hidden evil plans about enslaving whole sundren.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but drows are rarely even seen by humans are they? They're more of a fairlytale like: "be good and go to sleep else I'll give you to the drows, my child" instead of: "Hey man! I met 15 drows today, half of them were nice to me and gave me cookies, chocolate and flowers!"

I might be out bicycling in the deep forest, but that's atleast the picture I've got from playing drow on a number of servers, and from everything I've read about drows.

                      Peace!
I have a +1 question brewing in this skull somewhere...

Its Drow, not drows ^_^. And second off, Drow in Sundren were common because they were invading it. And they were usually hidden in caverns or in the wilderness. The commoner doesnt see goblins much either. But if your char is an adventurer, of course they're going to stumble across things rare to a commoner. And, some Drow have been in places for a long time, so, and they prove they're good, yet not everyone still believes their good. Like Aly, and Sinnafay were mostly trusted by all in Sundren, seeing as they'd been in the surface for a long time and claimed to follow Elistaree and they've done good deeds.

I still think that of all the drow out there, maybe one out of 100, 1000 or even 10.000 is born a good one, and that makes the possibility two of them would turn up in sundren really low. I just dont fancy the whole idea about good drow. it's like making a pally and trying to make him evil.. why can't some classes / races be the way they're supposed to be? Everything doesn't have to be turned to be uniqe or special..

LG is so hard and annoying to play, yeah. But, Drow have a god of GOOD. And don't say that was created for Drizz't, because it wasn't. I don't see why everyone has to be the alignment they are. People can change, restricting yourself by alignment of your race isnt a good idea IMO.

Aye, iw as speaking to Esteseten about the good drow. Evil Drow, need to be handed to mature players, sure.

Here's my take on the question.

Edit the 2da file of the race to eliminate their spell resistance. Living on the surface has eliminated the need to resist magical energy found under ground.
Having a high ECL and not having the primary ability that power mongers choose the race for would likely make players think twice before choosing them.

As for the Good diety Eilistraee, she was invented when Drizzt Do'urden was by the author of the forgotten realms to lend credence to the dark elf being of good alignment.

Drow should be concidered monsters by all and treated as such. There is no reason to give them the benefit of the doubt. Anyone can say that they are not evil. They are after all drow. Cursed by Corellon, and banished from elven society for their depravity and vile natures.

Conversely, they are a playable race in the game and it may be the only reason some would concider playing here at all.
