To be honest, I'm not really sure yet which server is going to be my long-term home... however, it does please me to see Sundren being brought back. ^_^ I always did like the Realms, and I play NWN2 to play the Realms.
In any case, I wish the dev team and the players here all of the best, wherever things fall in the end.Adama who was once called Adama Hrakness, sacred paw of Mielikki
Lihana Farrier, Paladin of Torm and noble dalliance
On Hold: Alandriel Ward, Actually a Vampire Groupie
Retired for Good: Tamryn Jorandur, Hano's Wife and Conflicted Soul

Quick Clarification in response to Satoshi's post
I wasn't labelling any particular person or group as 'uncool', or taking sides, or anything of that nature. I meant only that the events made me sad, but now I'm happy to see that Sundren will be continuing
. I've had plenty of good experiences with the people who are putting their energies into the Venoshia project, and I hope it goes well! Hope that clears things up

I'd like to say that I'm glad to see Xeraph and Rhazeal still in good spirits. However, I was under the impression that the seperation of Sundren's development team was a creative and personal difference between members of the staff, with TheId supporting the temporary break away that GBX performed... up until he and the others decided they didn't like the FR setting and went another direction completely.
What was so 'uncool' about that situation, as such things are bound to happen: people have different ideas, and ways to impliment them. The only thing I could see as not living up to expectations would be the seperation of the team with the intent of continuing the world, and then dropping it. Honestly, I don't care about the ideological differences of the staff, or who runs the world(s), as long as the team produces quality results, and are enjoyable to talk and roleplay with. As I like GBX, Echelon, Kaither, and several others of the dev team for Venoshia, I'll be playing that. That also won't stop me from stopping by Sundren's server to see how the Devs and moderators of the project are maintaining the world and gameplay.
Yeah, yeah. Call me a 'traitor', if you want. I don't give a damn. I came to play a game, with people I like no less. I don't care for social drama, and I won't let it bother what games I play and how I play them. I just wish all you kids would play nice, and give everyone a chance.

Actually, I don't really like "single player persistent world" persay, I was under the impression that Sundren was going to be turned into a series of single playing campaign modules, of which there is simply not enough (that are quality, and interesting.)
If you're asking me what I like to see in PWs, I like the following:
1) NPC quests, some so hard that you are forced to grouped. The NPC quests give me a reason to ROLE PLAY going to these places, and killing the monsters. The old sundren, NPCs would tell you about problems, but they'd never really tell you to do anything about it and the guards around would always address you as Citizen. This bothered me. However, you seem to be addressing this issue =)
2) Crafting, and XP gained from crafting. I had heard that this existed in a couple worlds in NWN1, and this really intrigued me. I really think that this is a good way to go, I despise the fact that in PWs (especially RP servers, Action servers I can perfectly understand) the only way to advance is to mindlessly grind monsters. Nothing gets me more irate. I want to get exp from freakin' gambling, crafting, the works. Stuff that you actually role play. I would love like crazy to get exp from sitting among a crowd of RPers playing cards and roleplaying a rogue that was "sleight of handing" cards in and out, like I do in PNP.
3) LESS AREA IS BETTER. I can't stress this enough. I hate metagaming excuses to travel a long distance, just because no one is where I am now and wanting to go visit people. Towns are always lacking people, but full of useless NPCs wandering around. And personally, while I can entertain myself for about 15 minutes doing so, role playing with inanimate objects is not my hobby.I prefer small towns with gathering areas, to huge cities where, even if others were there, it's impossible to find them.
That's about it on my opinions of what PWs should be like, otherwise Sundren was a fine example of a great world
EDIT: it does help if I read everything, not just the first paragraph. Well, I know what solo'ers like (as I guess I am sort of one, most of the time) are minigames. Gambling in the casinos is a big hobby of mine on servers that have it (mostly because I am lucky and I like making money :P). Like chinchin ronin (dice game, may have the name wrong), blackjack, darts, chess, things like that. But I like them more when they involve skills that make sense; like someone with a high sleight of hand should be able to cheat in blackjack/poker, someone with a high dexterity should be able to throw the dice in a certain way (within reason I mean), things like that. Basically, as long as there is a high amount of quests, and a decent amount of minigames (especially ones I can play with others in a RP scenario) will win my heart.
Originally posted by LallendosI am curious, Lockindal, as to what aspects of a single player persistent world are attractive to you? Lack of persons constantly OOC, people with poor roleplay skills, or maybe you prefer to not roleplay? Is it internet performance issues?
Currently, my responsibilities include immersion and player related aspects of the world. As such, there may be things that soloers want that can be passed on to the development guys, or set up in storyline contexts.

Hmm, i agree with lock about less area. Sure, more monsters to kill and things would be better, but less towns and gathering places would be nice. Just so you can find other people to RP with, as Sundren never had people in towns much, I remember one time before everything was out Port Avanthyr was CROWDED. It was just crazy, and insane fun IMO. I don't know why some of the staff didn't like people just standing around rping.

I actually agree with you both. I will take this up with the higher powers when I have the time.
Port Avanthyr will be the start area from now on. And as I said, will offer many new things that old areas didn't. Nonlinear ( There you go - Rhazeal) alignment and intilligent based quests to get you started and so forth. Alot of NPCs with amusing stories and personalities. Old familiar faces, Foulbreath, cleric'ses of the Bitch Queen, Old Mariner Inn and so forth.
There isn't much left to be mapped. I need to do a gate at one end, setup waypoints, scripts, import NPCs, sounds, adjust lighting and paint grass. A few days work.
