I'm all for this sort of thing, and if I get the urge to do something like this I often message the other player/DM for permission to do so and ask for a bit of 'set the scene' information, like how certain things done in game might have looked from my character's perspective (as opposed to flat mechanical stuff, like how a vampire using HIPS would have looked doing the action, or maybe how a warrior chooses to explain their use of a combat maneuver). A good 'general rule of thumb' is go with what's in your chat log, and if you need more just send a message (in-game or pm).

Eirimil Gaelazair (Dead)- Bitter. Caustic. Abrasive. Egocentric. Probably right. Found dead in the burned-out Viridale forest a few weeks after the survivors were able to sweep the area after the Bloodmaim offensive. Aside from his usual attire, an intricate music box was the only thing in his possession.

I probably would not mind if my characters were included in someone else's story, just so long as it is stuff like adding flavor/set dressing/conversational and the like.

If someone wants to have me doing more than that, a PM might be appropriate.

EDIT: If you are only reporting things I actually said/did I have no problem at all with that!

I Do a few RP threads here and there, and if they involve another player I send the draft to them so that they can review it, and add or correct things that was either said or done that I might have missed or forgot.

I look forward to your stuff though.

Love seeing write ups on events I run. Lets me know how they were seen, the direction a character(s) is taking on it, and encourages me to do more on it. Its just sometimes hard to get the time to read through everything.

Dumb question: how does one enable chat log? Is this that add-on thing I never got that would make my life easier?

In your nwn2player.ini file, add this line under game options

              ClientChatLogging=1

That file is usually in /My Documents/Neverwinter Nights 2/
The logs should appear in C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Temp\NWN2\LOGS
They get overwritten every time you start up the game though, so rename them if you want to save a log.

Do you use the client extender? If so, there is a folder in your nwn documents folder that has them all saved, called Logs.

I actually am not a big fan of chat logs. Most of the time I see them used is OOCly to "get" someone or to "prove" a point. Most people don't have instant recall of every event in their life. I think there is a place for them, but it I see them used more negatively than positively.

Chat logs are a doubled edged sword. A person can remember something differently than it happened. I feel permission is best. Chat logs should be an OOC tool for DMs... Unless you're trying to remember names or forgot a really great quote... Something along those lines.

                    I don't use chat logs.

Hey peeps, figured I might add my comments.

Firstly: I don't mind other people including my characters in. I happily blather in emotes ingame so it's pretty well understood how or what my characters do or react. Made a mute character just to refine that ability, actually >.>

Secondly: Chat-logs can be situationally useful, and I have a tendancy to use them in one of two cases: either reminding myself of events and the situation so I can recreate the perspective as required, or because one of my characters is taking say 'meeting notes', for record.

Thirdly: Chat-logs can be accessed either through a means such as the Client extender, or manually enableing them in code. For the latter, I advise using batch-rotator. I can provide example code for it's creation if anyone wnats it, but the Extender is just plain more powerful and versatile.

I honestly despise the way I see chat logs being used as an ooc weapon during rp.

I feel like I should start docking levels every time I see someone slap an ooc reprimand damn about something they've previously logged.

How does that even work? Because I've honestly never had anyone do that.

                              Seen it several times IG.

                              Normally it goes something like:

Char 1: IC statement regarding opinions
                              Char 2: Conflicting statement.
Char 1: ///But yesterday you said something else, I've got the logs.

                              or a personal favorite

Char 1: Generic statement of opinion
                              Char 2: Disagreement
Char 1: ///Another person in your faction said something else a few weeks ago, I've got the logs.

It's not even done IC (Which would feel like we've got a horde of Sheldon Coopers characters running around the server with perfect eidetic memories), but the OOC move just breaks any RP flow (almost as much as the tools who PM laws or other meta information during RP).

Honestly every time I see it I have to resist the temptation to emote *Rocks Fall, Character 1 dies* then perma fugue the idiot.

Logs help for when people are lying about something, be it IC or otherwise. Especially if it's a paladin. They should get an alignment change.
