  • A serious question for serious role players...

So I've asked some of you this in game, and the response has generally been positive. But before I even start approaching Devs or DMs with this idea, I wanted to know how you, the players feel.

I'm not going to try to dress it up with diplomacy or fancy explanations, so I'll just come out and say it:

Would any of you be offended if my character, Cazen, were to open a brothel in Port Avanthyr?

I'd certainly not be offended, and I think it could most certainly opening up some interesting conflicts.

Just, well, as long as it doesn't turn into super cyber hotspot.

It'd be a good area to stage quests, that's for sure.

Only offended if it ends up as an excuse for players to do inappropriate ugly bumping.

          Otherwise, why not?
But please, keep one thing in mind for me. What have you become when even nightmares fear you?

Brothels and prostitution has its place in the setting. Seeing how violent of a world it is and other harsh things that add to the evil element, such as slavery, I would say its probably doable. But we might have to discuss limits and highlight things that our more ill minded community members might try - humanoid adults only. Theres also the ever important rp factor of getting approval to open such a business by those who run the port. Such a high cash business might raise crime and give health issues.

I would be behind this as long as there are limits in place as mentioned by Atmo.

                There's not one already?

There would definitely need to be some ground rules. Not offended though.

Like, a classy brothel, or like a nasty brothel?

Heck yes. Abby needs filthy hookers to cure of social diseases. I highly endorse PCs opening a Fest Hall in the city.

FR lore: In the FR boxed set and beyond, all the "brothels" were renamed "fest halls" in order to mask what they were from irate parents during D&D's contraversial days as the prefered game of Satan and his demonic followers on earth. So whenever you see names like "The Purple Palace Festhall" in your city guides, you know what sort of debautchery is going down inside.

Remember that it has to have one prostitute that secretly has a heart of gold. Minimum

It can have variety. Like a Baskin Robins... but with hookers.

There also needs to be one set up in the basement of the Lathanderite temple.
