Yeah, I wasn't necessarily saying they should be removed either. It's nice to know when that mage needs a dispelling.

I do think a transparency kick would be nice, though. Something to make things like Shades and the Protection spells more like a latticework and less like a golfball.

Just to clarify, i think things are fine the way they are. I dont think more vfx need to be made visible for spells that dont have them now. But i do think its unrealistic to be constantly buffed out to the max, and I do think a deterrent to that is the currently visible visual effects, or at least, i dont see people chatting around the campfire currently shining and shimmering splendidly. Maybe thats not because of vfx? But i know personally my mystic theurge rests after adventuring so he can chat without looking like a christmas decoration gone wrong. XD

If vfx really does not deter 24/7 maximized buffing, i would not oppose turning the lights down.

The way I see the argument for removing VFX on the most obnoxious spells. I count the most obnoxious as all bubble effects and all stone/spider/bark/ etc skin texture-replacing effects

        PROS

        -More attractive game client.
-Able to see everyone's unique armour & equipment in battle
-Much easier to tell people apart, see what you are doing if playing over-the-shoulder
-More accurate to PnP descriptions and illustrations

        CONS

-You can't immediately tell if a person is dangerous or not
-Casters might walk around with enchanments on them (bad I guess...?)
-Party members will have to communicate with you to let you know they need more spells cast on them

Personally, I'm for just keeping the effects, or at least making the VFXes more transparent. Having a visual indicator of active spells is handy, blinding factor aside, and a good part of the nice spells that make casters and such so scary don't have a VFX, or had it removed.
But please, keep one thing in mind for me. What have you become when even nightmares fear you?

Lol, only the last con is actually a con if you think about it.

            1) adds a touch of tension to the game, which cannot be a bad thing, and

            2) why the heck shouldn't casters be allowed to walk around fully buffed without penalty? Even fully buffed a Wizard's AC is 15-20 lower than most fighters. No exaggeration. My AC at level 20 was 31 fully buffed. I know fighters who have AC's of 50+ (possibly with Improved mage armour wands, you'd have to ask them)

Because Premonition, Stoneskin, Improved Stoneskin, Displacement, Mirror Image, Death Armor, Elemental Shield, Protection from Arrows, Stonebody, Ironbody.

Casters, you will not be getting rid of your vfx.

Is that an official' fuck off we're not doing it' or are there still ways to convince the team that NWN2 buffs are ugly as shit

Removing buff visuals has been brought up several occasions so this is not the first thread. As in all the other threads we will reiterate our feelings on the matter, a visual display of buffs is preferred as an indicator over none at all.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

*blinks* I think most people were suggesting toning down the brightness or changing globes to something less obtrusive, not getting rid of them.

It shouldn't affect the ability to tell if someone is buffed or not at all.

Just to clarify are you opposed to reducing the brightness? or just removing the effects entirely?

that was my impression as well. I for one would think having more vfx to be a swell idea, but having one or two spells that contribute to 90% of screen glare can be a bit visually exhausting on the longer duration spells.
