  • Vile Eyes - Removing the VFX?

Seems like a giant OVER HERE sign to have this red glowing vfx that wouldn't be on someone normally.

"Hey, do you have VILE EYES?"

"Errr, no? I just have pink eye."

    "Oh, okay, carry on then!"

I'm a fan of less is more, but I'd like to here if people have arguments for keeping it.

I vote for keeping it. Per the description of the feat:

"The character has either drilled a hole in her forehead trying to add a third eye, or she has supernaturally scarred one of her regular eyes."

It's supposed to be something that is noticeable. One of those things that you should have to weigh the benefits over the risks when taking it.

Pretty much nails it on the head. I'd put it on the same level as the Undead Graft of a Pale Master in terms of 'BIG EVIL BULLSEYE' marks.

The VFX is pretty, ah, neon-signish. It's also impossible to actually cover with anything short of a masked hood and not walking (because it trails).

If there was a way to tone the VFX down or just have it alter the actual character model instead, that'd be cool.

If not, I'd vote for keeping it.

Scarred eyes aren't the same as GLOWING eyes. I'm okay with something, but the glow is like, ridiculously bright XD

With the few warlocks that are around, and the fewer that have taken said feat, I just can't get behind the change. Maybe change to something less flashy, but it'd still be good to have something noticeable about them doing something like this to themselves.

              Maybe remove the trail effect?

Then we can use Blindfolds or full face masks to cover it =)

( I am in full agreement that it should be a penalty though! It's a permanent alteration to the eyes, although I don't know the description of 'Scarred' eyes. )

The trail effect and the eye-glow are part of the same VFX.

I really like the effect, and it does seem in line with the feat's description to have something really visually striking for the character. What if the color were changed as a compromise? Red eyes make everyone think evil, but white or yellow eyes could be open to many interpretations.
I can't slow down, I can't hold back though you know I wish I could. No there ain't no rest for the wicked until we close our eyes for good!

Sounds like everyone pretty much likes it, so I'll do nothing! That's why I asked.

I think you should add the glowing eyes vfx to all seeing and detecting spells, such as see invisibility, true seeing, dragon sight, detect evil, detect undead, and so on.

I think that'd be nifty, and a way to tell if such characters are seeing magically.

Dark Lord of Averoigne- whose windows stare/ On pits of dream no other gaze could bare!"

I like this idea. As much as I'd like to see some of the sillier effects (protection from energy!) toned down, it would be nice to have some of the no-effect ones get a visual, even if it's something small.

My favorite way of making something obvious innocuous is just to increase the interest-factor of everything else. Having glowing eyes from magical visual effects would be kinda fun.

I would love to tone down ALL VFX in the game honestly. There's nothing worse than a group of fully buffed PCs. It looks like an annoying game of marble maddness with lightbulbs instead of marbles. I can't see a bloody thing, and have no choice but to put the camera waaay overhead so I can even vaugly see. Since I normally play with an over the shoulder view, I don't even buff with certain spells unless it absolute death to avoid.

Does anyone know of a good overide so that the VFX isn't so obnoxious in general?

Same here, especially considering the majority of buffs in PnP aren't visual. The notorious glowing light bulb effect from having too many buffs is annoying.
