  • Gear

I am a little confused and curious at the approach taken. From what little I have seen I have loved. However the way certain gear is displayed on the market it makes me wonder.

Why is it that magical gear is right there in good quality at every faction vendor there is? It seems all you need is good coin and faction and you get pretty badass gear.

The Only Reason I question this is because of the "low magic setting" yet magical items seem very plentiful!

I'm not hating just curious and a little thrown off by It is all.

It's not a "No" magic setting. But magic items are greatly toned down from the base game.

Second, you go ahead and grind that rep to get those items Just saying.

"Low" magic is probably not appropriate any more. The items used to be much less powerful but staff decided to improve them to bring melee characters on par with caster builds.

And yes its the rep not gold that is the real obstacle.

I beg to differ, all the money I've earned has been spent in rep gear, while I still go around with +2 weapons dropped by the smith of Argyle, and I need to get over 200k gold for those Blackwood Gauntlets. the price seems to be an oversight from the staff and I doubt it's intended to cost 4 times as much as the strongest armor, but whatever...

Sounds like I might need to raise the cost of the armor.

Hmm. It's a nice idea however it seems very MMOish and harvesty. If those terms make any sense at all. I'm not sure if I entirely like the idea of "grinding" faction to get gear I have been starring at for months lol. I think it would be cooler if the gear where in a rare drop system throughout the world and not in such a "gear set" system. Alas that is just my opinion.

"Grinding" it out gives you a sense of achievement, in-character and out-of-character. It also detracts from trolls/extremely casual players from getting extremely rare loot and causing havoc/drama. That wouldn't be very fair now, would it?

Besides, would it really be roleplaying if that +5 Ruby Rod of Asmodeus just dropped from that goblin you slayed?

Two big problems with that. There's ... a lot of faction stores, and each one is full of gear tailor-made for that faction. Made to compliment what they do well without greatly shoring up their weaknesses. Hard to do that with a random drop system.

Secondly, did you seriously just say that grinding rep is more MMOish than getting the best items in the game off random mobs?

=( Would be kind of fair to those of us who don't get to play that often.

That actually wouldn't be fair at all. Those who play more will get more. That's fair.

I think you are misunderstanding me both of those concepts would be exceptionally MMO ish. However when I speak of random loot it is obviously not based of total NPC population. I simply mean that through the deepest dangerous reaches of the server new and rare gear could be discovered. Etc etc. Nothing like a lowly goblin dropping a +5 blah blah blah. I guess my main point is that when you have gear sets sitting and waiting it kind of takes out the excitement of the unknown while adventuring because you already know exactly what your going to wear.

I don't mind seeing at least a little stuff like that since not all of us fit well into factions and choose to remain outside. I don't feel you should be pigeon-holed into a faction if you want to be relivant from an equipment side, because factions tend to pigeon-hole your RP to an extent.

Question: Can you get faction gear even if you're not a member if your rep is high enough within that faction? Not that anyone could ever do that, just saying.

There is still gear out there that does drop on mobs, but it is still nice to have the faction stuff available.

I'd just like to say this, because it's a repeating source of contention for the server: factions are not, nor will they ever be, only available to certain PC types. They're not square holes, with only square blocks filling them.

A faction exists as an additional layer to your character. You don't need to adopt their mission for your own beyond what you have to, if you want. But it provides complications, intrigue, and another level of RP beyond what is possible with just a singular character idea.

That's all I'll say on the matter, but I wanted to get it out there.
