There is plenty of gear that is relatively equivalent to the mid range faction stuff if you know where to look including several non faction vendors... exploration is a good thing.
    Ghal Narish, Battle-Mage
    Faucon De'Ombre
    , Triadic Knight

    Ulriel Gabrieth, Devout of Lathander
    Noril De'nor, Archer ...
Liem Ashcroft, Miner, Smith, and Weaponsmaster

I guess my main point is that when you have gear sets sitting and waiting it kind of takes out the excitement of the unknown while adventuring because you already know exactly what your going to wear.
Wonderful news! It used to work this way, you know what happened?

People would just grind for that gear instead. I actually had code sitting in sundren to generate random items and properties, equipment quality and more, and it got abused more than you can ever realize.

Only way I'd do that again is with Bind on Pickup with everything that you loot Which I can code, trust me.

After I saw fully geared out level 4's on the server that would point to people who would just farm for their gear for them, I just shook my head.

Cool exotic gear in dungeons is best for DM events anyway.

People just love to exploit and they hurt everyone in the end because we eventually just redo things. I'd love for 1000 ways to get gear, but as long as you code a system, someone will look for a way around it.

True enough. Personally I would make all advanced custom types of gear only attainable via roleplay. Which means all of it would come directly from a DM so other items could be randomly generated without being abused as much. So mundane items and slightly powerful items are purchasable and find-able. Etc, etc..
