nwn.sundren.org:5125 is what's in my direct connect box and it works just dandy to get me in game!

Still this makes me sad. I have my own module I've been working on that will be ready to start testing in a few weeks and now I won't have anyone to test it. The random dungeon generation is cool too. I am now wondering if I should bother continuing development on it...
I know how you feel, my secret dreams of creating a sci-fi based persistent world or an entirely urban PW now lie in tatters. Not that I'd have actually ever done it, or even if I did I'd not have any players (for long! Bwahahah!).

    Ah well.

nwn.sundren.org:5125 works now. Several previous tries didn't, though.

For what it's worth, the History and Favorites tabs on the Gamespy screen still work. Refresh Servers works on those tabs, too. I think the info for them is stored in the nwn2player.ini file.

      Thanks, everyone for the help.
      Cheers,

I have said it before to other talented people and I will say it again, better off to support us, if all your efforts elsewhere will get little exposure. I know people who crafted great NWN2 servers that came and went out of beta and literally almost no one played on them.

To have such people during their time of development aid us for example, would have been a considerable boon.

        But it's not for everyone.

Wish there was more 3D modellers about ready to pitch in. I'd love to develop a replacement for NWN.

3d Modelers? If you build it, they will come.

I just wish I had the self discipline required to be a regular 3d modeller!

I got the tools to build it. There's fuck tons of already existing engines that can be adapted or even pick from the plethora I wrote myself.

But assets are a pain to get.

I was chatting about problems like this just the other day with a friend, though we were more focusing on the film end of the spectrum. Still, vaguely relevant.

I suspect there are a great number of people out there who feel the opposite about things - for them asset creation is quick and easy(ish) while engine creation or scripting is like some fearful and terrible thing.

What'd be needed first and foremost is a firm project to attract people to it - What is the project, its aims, its setting, its rules system, its whole ambiance, does it require licensing an IP or will it be a fresh setting?

If it's an open ended worldbuilding platform you'll attract one type of person, if it's a set world/environment with the worldbuilding system as a side effect then you'll attract a different kind of person. Not to mention the joys of working out what technological level or platform you want to shoot for and the pitfalls of trying to maintain a consistant visual style with submissions from multiple contributors.

Once you've got that and a firm base to work from getting contributors and assets shouldn't be that much of a problem. Just look at the number of MUDs and their clones, things like The Endless Forest and the massive spectrum of NWN and NWN2 servers that are out there. Creators and Content are easy(ish) to come by. It's firm, attractive projects with clear goals and strong leadership (that preferably don't require unpleasant tools or expensive or worse, illegal, software to create things) that often seem to be lacking.

Engines, Assets. Both are easy enough to find. Vision and those strong enough to lead on it are a different proposition.

                  Just thought I would mention this . . .

I was checking out the Scry page on Skywings NWN2 serverlist site and I noticed that on the front page, there is a link to Sundren.org, but on the Scry page if you mouse over the "City of Sundren" link in the name column it does not link to sundren.org. I suspect there is some setting that needs to be set so Scry can automagically link to sundren.org.

According to Skywing it's all automatic, there's nothing for me to config, it's probably their site not pulling the right variable or they manually enter it.

I'm not too worried about it, if people can't read the website URL to the left of that particular subsection of the site I would be surprised....

Had the same thing happen. Maybe the extension is being tweaked by Skywing? I know most of the support for nwn2 is officially gone. Maybe they pulled something more this morning/last night

ya you have to wait for it to fail to connect, then connect from the server history tab, strange

I'm hoping the guys who made the client extension can figure out a way to make things work again. Till then, direct connect.
